Well, here gos!!! Hi!! I'm dede, and I'm from New Jersey. I have been on the computer for so many years, and have been to so many different types of sites, but have never thought of going to a site with forums for my own illness. Yes, I'm a diabetic too. I was first diagnosed when I was 27 years old, so I was told that I was a type 2 diabetic, using only pills. I got pregnant that year and had to go on insulin, because we all know that the baby can't be eating on your pills, so it's insulin. I was told by my doctor that when I gave birth, I would go back on the pills. Well, so much for that :( !! It's been 19 years and I'm still on insulin. So I guess I'm type 2 and type 1, who knows!!!

I have had different types of insulin and insulin along with pills, but my sugars are sometimes all over the place. I have also been on the pump (well, that was no good either:( ) I'm now with a new diabetic doctor, and I really like her, she really takes time with her patients, and we are again trying my insulin along with pills. I now take glucophage (500 mg.), twice a day. I also found out today that I have to take these pills with food!!! I took them on an empty stomach and learned a powerful lesson, EAT FOOD FIRST.

I am now trying to learn how to keep my sugar levels under control again. I guess that the body has a mind of it's own, cause at times it's under control, and then it's not. When I was on the pump that was cool, but I would always forget that I had it on and would pull it out in my sleep or something. Well, I guess the pump wasn't good for me, I had it in once for about 3 days and my sugars were terrible, so I was trying to figure out why are they so high, when the pump was giving me my insulin. I finally went to my site on my body where it was inserted and noticed that I had a very large lump where my needle were inserted. Well, for 3 days my insuline wasn't going into my body, it was getting caught under my skin, and it turned into a big sore. It took so time to heal that sore, so that's it for the pump, I went back to giving myself needles again. :(

But I just stopped in to say Hello to everyone and happy to meet all of you guys, and also, please stop by soon. One!:)

Welcome.

I think it's more correct to say each body has a pattern of its own. In my experience once we discover our individual patterns, good control becomes almost very easy. Great control still requires much discipline for most.

I'm glad you found us. This place has helped many of us discover how to tackle this beast.

Hi Dede,

Welcome to the forums, glad you found us, its a great source of information and the people here are always ready to help and support.

The Glucophage (Metformin) can be a bit of killer on an empty stomach, guess you had one of the Metformin Moments!

Have you have a recent A1c, are you testing regularly, watching carbs, what are your numbers like at the moment?

Visit and post often,

:) As one old timer to another. Somethimes we think we know all about this disease and then something new pops up. Keep testing, getting A1cs done(there is a home test kit available now), exercise and watch the food(keep a journal) you may be eating more carbs than you think.

Remember you have diabetes it does not have you.

Welcome Dede and glad you are here. It sounds like you've been through the mill with treatment regimes and the like. Sometimes, it's hard to find that "niche," and even when we do, life is so unpredictable that it can throw yet another curve ball our way. :( Here's hoping that you get things under wraps again & feel free to ask questions along the way. Someone's bound to have been there and may be able to help. Once again, welcome aboard & we look forward to hearing more from you. :shakehand
