I was hospitalized and diagnosed with Type 2 about 15 months ago. I stabilized quickly and was off insulin within 2 weeks. My numbers have been good with rare exceptions but ... this is the crazy part ... lately I can tell that my eyesight is changing (again) ... I am getting that insatiable thirst again ... and there is a noticeable increase in my trips to the bathroom at night (during the day as well) ... but my numbers aren't bad ... I have been feeling fairly crappy for the past month or so and I am exhausted ... perhaps there is another ailment that is causing me to experience these symptoms, any thoughts? I REALLY do not want to end up back in the hospital, but this is getting ridiculous.

I am currently taking 500 mg Metformin in the morning and 1,000 mgs Metformin at night. I also have high blood pressure.

I have been under a great deal of stress lately trying to get my youngest through all his (expensive) senior activities, while also pulling the funds together to get him situated in college -- he's starting college this summer (sigh) ... I'm pooped!

I appreciate any advice you can give me ... this forum has been so very helpful to me over the past 15 months.

Thank you in advance. :D

Phranp,

Hammer has asked a good question, you mention symptoms of diabetes/high blood sugars, but you have not said if your are testing or what your BG readings are. If you are not testing I would suggest you need to test and check where your numbers are. Are you watching what you eat, the metformin is only part of the equation, you can't just take the metformin and eat as before, you do need to be watchful of your intake.

Also stress can raise your BG. Let us know what your numbers are at present.

Stress can definately be a part but call your doctor ASAP. Is this child paying a part of his way for senior expenses or college? I sure hope so.

It could be any number of things causing you to feel ill and fluctuations of your sugars this early in the game of diabetes the best answer is talk to the medical professional.

Are you exercising and drinking lots of water and other sugar free beverages? Remember if you drink alcohol that counts as carbs and can mess up your sugar if you are eating the allowed carbs as well. Keep testing.

This morning I tested after breakfast my BG was 124 ... I just test a minute ago (about 3 hrs after breakfast) and my BG is 88 ... for breakfast I had eggs, 1 slice of bacon, 3 thinly slice watermelon triangles, about 4 oz. orange juice and hash browns (about 4 oz). I had not been testing more than once or twice a day in the past ... but I have increased that since I have been feeling poorly. I watch my carb intake, but probably not as well as I should. I don't eat as regularly as I should because sometimes it's just hard to get myself to eat. Because I have been so tired I have not been getting any exercise.

Have you changed your diet because of this post? I say this because it's a common reaction when we're in doubt about our control and nasty people like doctors and posters question our behavior ;) I've done it.

Not eating can perpetuate this general tiredness. Without food, your body goes into a defensive mode and basically shuts dow, Try eating small regular meals and get out for a walk every day. You will feel better in no time.

Make sure you spread your testing around. A couple of fastings, a couple of pre-meals, and a couple of post meals a week. Sometimes high sugars will show up in one place but not another; though I think generally it's across the board.
