View Full Version : What's your comfort zone for BG?

I find that I can't seem to handle being in the 80's....even if my BG is stable. I have hypo symptoms, or I just don't feel quite right.
Yet, I can live in the 90's all day long. I've finally come to the place of realizing that my comfort zone is between 95-110.
Just curious as to how it is with others.

Hi Holly,

Mine is 75-90. I feel the absolute best (most energetic) at 75-80. I don't feel bad until I am below 50. Not always a good thing, but at least I don't get those awful Lantus lows anymore.

5.0mmol/L to 6.9mmol/L (90mg/dl to 126mg/dl). When I am above or below I start to get symptoms, I am young though so this is the most sensitive to bg I am ever going to be. I have recently started to feel drops in my bg like a sudden movement, pins and needles like sensations in my feet and my heart beating when high or low. Its all fun and games :D.

I shoot for 80 to 100. I can function normally down to about 70 and have stayed there for many hours. A lot depends on if I am at 70 with just basal or heading down with leftover bolus.

I feel most comfortable when BG is 5-7mmol/l (90-126mg/dl). I correct anything outside the the 4-8mmol/l (72-144mg/dl) range.

I like being 80-110. I get sx of lows when I'm in the 50s, but usually not until the low 50s.

I'm the same way. I don't like being below that range. If I could stay at 100 all day, I would be extremely happy. I spent about 2 hours today around 75 and finally ate something because I just couldn't stand the low feeling any longer.

Ditto

I feel exactly the same. A nurse said the other day that she thought I had a psychological fear of higher BS. Shes probably right.

i feel pretty ok between 4.5 up to 9. over that and i start feeling drowsy and fatigued.

Sometimes at around 4.5 i can start feeling a hypo coming on, sometimes it's a little lower at just under 4.

I like it between 100-140. ANything lower and I get hungry, but I can take it up to about 170. Whenever I try to correct, it either goes too low or doesn't work at all.

I like 80 to 100. However, in an effort to avoid hypos, I prefer staying in the 90s.

Currently I love to be in the 90s, I don't even mind the high eighties, but the 70s make me start to worry as I don't seem to ever hover at a number...always moving up and down...and being responsible for two little kids I eat 4 carbs if I see a number in the 70s. Now don't get me wrong, I see lots of 110s and 120s and although I would like to correct with the occasional 130, I am worried my .5 unit pen would send me much to low if I tried to correct that, so I just hop on the treadmill :)

90 to 120 here; and yesterday I actually managed to stay in those parameeters all day, yay me! Today not so good. I am still trying to get my numbers down; still working out what foods don't agree with me, and sometimes I just don't get my bolus for meals right at all. That is the range I feel best, though. I can go as low as 70 (sometimes) before I start to feel a hypo but other times I feel crummy at 80. On the other end of the scale, over 180 and my energy level tanks.

100 to 130.
My A1C is 6.0

It's not a lot of effort to stay there.

Do I go above and below? Sure I do. I don't stress over it.

I have to take BlueSkys answer on this one.
When below 5 and above 7 I can feel it and need to adjust.

I've gone from 5.5 - 7 being my "good feeling zone" to 4.5 - ?? being my "even better feeling zone" The difference i"ve found so far now I've adjusted lower is my body much more able to relax, less "washed out" feelings from stress, and memory seems more resilient... I can hold things in my mind better.

I only made this adjustment a day or so ago, maybe I will find more benefits too.

Hi there Paul, I have/had a similar problem. Just wanted to let you know that for me at least, learning to "re adjust" the body's reactions wasn't that hard in the end, it just required gritting my teeth, putting up with the side effects and not instinctively correcting to go upwards.

Once I have been down below 5 for more than about 8 hours (time probably depends on how long you've been up, but should be in the few hour to day or so range) then the side effects do seem to dissipate. The thing is, to be aware you are going to be feeling dodgy for a while and don't give up too quickly (and pop yourself up higher) - otherwise no re-adjustment occurs.

Mind you I have discovered this with the benefit of more stability that a pump gives me... but it may well be possible for you to readjust downwards somewhat, whatever your therapy.

If I can stay below 130 and above 80, I feel lucky and feel good. I'm so used to mine being high that I can start to feel it below 80. I wish I'd get used to 80,thoguh,because,naturally I worry about the constant highs. I'm working on them, though, but it's taking whopping amounts of insulin,

I like to stay in 4.5-6 right before meals. I tend to notice that something is "off" when I'm above 8 though.

Also, some days 4.9 feels far worse than 4.4.

Another thing I've come to experience is that when I work out, especially running, my BG drops like a stone. But I don't feel it. Whereas when I'm lifting weights it barely drops.

If it drops when I take too much insulin I definately feel it bad, but when running I can't feel a thing. Weird.
