My husband was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. We immediately made some lifestyle changes with diet and within 2 months he lost 25 lbs. He didn't feel that he was being deprived as I made modifications to all the meals prepared and he was eating every few hours while counting carbs, sodium, cholesterol, sugar and fat. I was so proud of him as he even gave up drinking. He had to go on insulin as well and he kept a log of his food and his blood rating for the 2 months. My dilema is that he seems to have now gone overboard and goes all day without eating, he forgets his meds, forgets to check his blood. He has lost another 15 lbs (all in a short 3 months). He weighs himself everyday. He is determined to lose even more weight. He is 5'9" and weighs 180 lbs now. He is looking frail, and he is tired, moody, dizzy, and forgetful. I am so worried that he now has an eating disorder and am worried what toll this will take on his body. Any advice or literature that I could show him would be very much appreciated. He doesn't listen to me and he seems to like the fact that people are constantly acknowledging his drastic change in appearance. First it was positive but now it is frightening. Help!!!

I'd call his doctor. Get doc to haul him in for a complete round of tests and a long chat.

Sounds like his diagnosis may have scared him badly. I am happy he has lost weight, but he needs to seriously hear from his doctor about the damage he can do to his body with rapid weight loss and continued starvation on his body.

I agree with xMenace. Call the doctor and talk to him/her. Then make an appointment with a nutritionist and a heart specialist. Sounds like your husband needs to know how to take care of his health. He has the motivation, just not all the right information.
