Hi Everyone...my Names Mel But You Can Call Me **[[tonga]]**...i'm 21 Years Old And I Have Been Diabetic Since I Wa 15.
I'm Here Because I Want To Meet And Talk With People Who Know What I'm Going Through Mentally And Physically, Learn From People, And Even Vent At Times...
Just To Give You A Feel Of Why I'm Here...(one Of The Main Reasons For Me)...i Come From A Giangantic Family..(mom Has 17 Bros And Sis' And Dad Has 12 ..out Of That, I Have Over 100+ Cousins Whom I Consider My Brothers And Sisters, But I Have 4 Sisters And 1 Bro..so Big Family...out Of All Of Them, My Twin Sister And I Are The Only Diabetics...we've Checked Thoroughly And The Only Person So Far We Know Of Was My Grandmother Who Was Diagnosed In Her Late 70's W/ Type 2...) I Get A Lot Of Support But Even Then They Really Don't Understand A Thing...which Is Why Twinny And I Fall Back On Each Other...
So, Really Just Here To Learn A Little, Talk And Get To Know People With The Same Problems As Me....any Advice Or Tips Or Anything Would Help....
Thanks.... Tonga

Hi Tonga,
Welcome to the forum. We do have many type 1s here and I'm pretty sure you'll get a great deal of support here. Ask questions and you can expect them to be answered within an hour or so.
Welcome again! :)

Welcome Tonga - it is great to have you in the group. You will find many people who know what you are going through - this is a wonderful online worldwide community of supportive, helpful, thoughtful people. That has been my experience anyway. :)

Welcome! My sister and I are also both D with no family history. Were you both diagnosed at the same time? Or years apart?
I was d'xd at 2 in 1984, my sister was d'xd at 13 in 2000.

Welcome to DF. My father has type 2, my grandfather (lived to his 90's) had type 2. Neither of my half brothers has it. You definitely have a HUGE family.

Hi Tonga, welcome to our support group. I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 6, in 1945. I have been diabetic for 62 years and I am very healthy. If you and your sister have good control with A1c's below 6.5 and you maintain that control then you will have a much better chance of having long healthy lives without serious complications. Good luck to you!

Hiya Tonga, from a fellow Seattlite! :D Well, technically I'm in Kent...no wait, I'm in Bellingham for the LinuxFest right now...took the kids to the Tulip Festival today. Now, I'm back in the hotel in Bellingham...
Okay, I'm rambling. I must be hungry and headachy!
Anyhow, welcome again! (Oh and I come from a huge family as well... I was grandchild #50 for my dad's parents. My dad has 11 siblings, they're all type 2. I'm the only type 1 in the entire family, that I know of...)
