Just in the process of trying out a few new meters and their accesories. Last night I used the one step and the lancet hurt on the number2! Right after I used the accu-chek soft-clix and it didn't even feel like it worked, but there it was, a small drop of blood. My original one is the Ascensia contour, and it was ok but for some reason I am finding this soft-clix much easier than any of the others.
Have not tried the Freestyle mini yet.
If you have comments on any of these, including the meters, please post.
Thanks

Use the meter you love the most and the lancing device you love the most. Don't feel like you have to use the one that came with the meter. I don't.

Funny you should say that Robi. I got a lancet device with my ultra mini and loved the lancet device. Dumped the one I have for the freestyle flash and use the other one. Absoluely, use the one that feels the best.

I like the portability of the UltraMini's lancing device, but my favorite is the SoftClix Plus that comes with the Accu-chek Compact Plus meter. I rarely use any other lancing device than those two. I hate the Freestyle one, and I dislike the larger Ultra ones... The MultiClix is great if you like a barrel of lancets, my insurance doesn't cover those so I only get those from reps when I go to one of their diabetes seminars. :D

I am sold on the MultiClix. I only advance to the next lancet when they get dull, so the cost is not a factor. The Biggie for me is they are the only lancet I have tried that does not wiggle when "fired". If it wiggles during the cycle, that is what causes the pain. No wiggle, no pain.

Has no ever tried the BD lancet device with BD Ultra Fine Lancets? - they're 33 guage, by far the thinnest I've found and pretty painless.

I am totally in love with the Multiclix! So handy to have extra lancets around without having to carry them :D And the Multiclix rarely or never hurts at all. If i remember it right, the lancets in the drum is just 30G, so pretty small too.

I was reading the comments about the multiclix, so I googled Multiclix get free and found this site. https://www.accu-chek.com/promo/us/usdrtvpromo.htm
I had to try it twice, you either have to check that you use insulin or that your current meter is an Accu-chek Advantage. It says you get an Accu-chek Avia, a multiclix lancer and 60 strips. It said I should receive the kit in 3-4 weeks. I hope it works and thought I would share the link.:)

yeah, same here. Never liked the one that came with the ultra mini. It felt to shaky (if that makes sense) Felt like it was gonna fall apart every time i used it lol. I like the one that came with the ultra smart.

kinda weird, i never pay attention to the lancing device... i use whatever is in the case, usually the one that came with the machine, with whatever lancets are around. i am no help here, just boring. ;)

My absolulte favorite lancets are the BD Ultra-fine 2 Lancets. They are the clear green ones with a pop off cap..Not like those twist off caps (those hurt! ).
As for the device, I lreally ike the Freestyle Freedom lancet device although I use the Contour Link to test my blood. :D

I love my SoftClix Plus and i wouldn't change it for any other device... except a non invasive device... obviously.

Plus the one i have attaches to the side of the compact plus meter, so it's always with the meter, i dont have to fiddle about with anything, i love it!

My next favorite would be the OneTouch Mini's lancing device, small, compact, hurts less than the One Touch Ultra device which stings like a ***** :D

Softclix all the way!

Relatively new to all this and the only lancets I've used are the Freestyle brand and the only device I've used is the Freestyle brand finger-sticker / arm-sticker combination.

I'm getting DARN tired of sticking my fingers. It seems that if I don't feel it, I don't get enough blood to matter. Sometimes I have to dial it up to 4 and stick myself twice. It's not true pain, it's just discomfort. And frustration when I have to do multiple sticks just to get a very small amount of blood.

I'm happy to hear about some of the other brands out there and happy to hear that changing brands might make the process a bit more comfortable.

I do make a habbit of testing my right hand before 3 p.m. and my left hand after 3 p.m. This is largely because I have no idea where I tested last unless there are some "holes" there; and I don't want to gang up on either hand.

The nurse who introduced me to the thrill of testing said not to "milk" the finger. Has anyone else been told this and if so, what's the harm? Maybe "milking" has many connotations. I tend to put pressure upstream of the stick-site and try to work up the tiny amount of blood required by the Freestyle Lite test strips.

One more question relating to sticking and testing. This freestyle light can be used on your fingers, your arm, you upper thigh... all over the place. BUT, it says that choice of site might impact GB levels. So if I'm testing my arm one day and my finger the next and my arm reads lower than my finger; doesn't that just mess with the precision of the readings?

So far I've stuck with (ooh what a pun) my fingers, gouging into the side of the finger at a point that lines up (approx) with an imaginary line that you would draw around the finger so as to line up with the back of the cuticle.

Well, it's time to test after some garlic mushrooms in a cream and white wine sauce; some really tough and dry lamb chops, some greek salad and some (not much) very tastey pita bread.

Thanks for this thread and if anyone has any other advice about how to make it less of a nuisance, I appreciate it.

Why mess with a lancing device?

I just pick up the lancet and stick myself. It is quicker and I know exactly how hard I am going to stick myself. I've been doing this for years. One morning I went to stick my finger my lancing device fell apart I became upset my teenager said, "Can't you just stick yourself?" and that was it.

Each to his own thing and way of gettinga drop of blood.
