Does anyone have experience of retaining a lot of fluid in their face? It seems that after a meal with a lot of carbohydrates my face gets very puffy looking and after about 3 hours it goes away again. I had a food intolerance test done a while ago and have left out the foods i'm intolerant to but it still happens. I've noticed when i eat low carb meals i swell up a lot less. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Seems like an allergy to a food you're eating to me. Glutton?

Could it be that you have discovered a new allergy/intolerance? I find that my allergy comes and goes, I never had them before being a diabetic, but all of a sudden my eyes started to go dry and started to get hay fever like symptoms. However this only happens in random places and mainly in the summer. Not worked it out yet :D.

Allergy would be my guess also. I have not heard of carbohydrates causing swelling. I really wonder if you don't have a wheat or gluten allergy. The other thing you might try is eating one food type at a time and see which one is causing the swelling.

your question may have just answered one of mine. I have noticed that I get a wierd swelling in my face and neck. I have not contributed it to carbs, but I am wondering if I may have an allergy to gluton. My allergist stated that I am only allergic to mold and dust, but I am wondering if her checked for that. I will ahve to do more reach on gluton allergies!

A gluten intolerance or Celiac disease affects the small intestine. I'd say it's more an allerigic reaction to something. Keep a detailed log of foods eaten and symptoms.

Thanx for the replies :) It might actually be wheat or gluten, i noticed a really strong reaction after wholemeal pasta the other day. Weird it didn't come out of my food intolerance test a few months ago though...
