i just got hired at ralphs italian ices yesterday (yay, my first job!).
i'm totally excited but i have one concern.. what do I do if I have to work weird hours where I'd normally get my shot?
like.. 4-9 [where in between, i'd normally get a shot at 6ish for dinner] .. =[

If your talking about your before dinner bolus shot, I would suggest taking your ten minute break and take your shot and eat something. If you are not going to eat until nine pm, then you should wait until you eat to take your meal shot.

There are a lot of variables left out of your question. Can you tell us a bit more? Type one? What kind of insulin? Will you be eating when you take your injection?

My advice is to keep something in your pocket to treat a hypo. I like to keep a few packs of Smarties in my pocket. Also keep your meter handy.

umm type 1.. I don't give myself my shots so that's the big problem. At dinner I get only humalog insulin.. and I don't think I get a break :|

I would strongly suggest you learn to self inject so that you are free to eat (or not) whenever you like. I realize it can be daunting but the freedom associated is worth it.

If you cannot or will not, you will need to wait until you get home to inject and eat.

Because you only take humalog, does that mean you are counting your carbs and taking an amount of humalog to cover those carbs? If so you wouldn't need a shot unless you ate something. You could eat your dinner before or after work.

no break? a five hour shift at most jobs should get your something....

as stated earlier, if your shots are after you eat... no eat = no shot.

but... maybe you can work on mustering up the courage to start your own injections, the first few may be hard for ya, but you just have to start... then it will be like nothing. go for it!!:D

If you use syringes... ask for an inject ease. If your using a pen, ask for syringes so you can use an inject ease.

I wouldn't pay that much money for one, your doctor should be able to get you one for cheaper/free. But it certainly seem to make it easier to give a shot.
