I'm 52 and live in Texas. I have dealt with low blood sugar for 30 years, now I am told I have the starting of diabetes because of a blood test that shows the last 3 months of blood sugars.
The blood test the doctor ran showed adv 147 to highest being 189.
My Doctor is wanting me to try and control my diabetes with a diet. I have a glucose Monitoring system called Ascensia Contour and my blood sugars are running higher than 189 some of the times in the morning, from 121 to 250 with this monitor.
I am waiting for someone to get back to me so I can talk about a plan diet Its been 9 days and I am wanting some info now. LOL
Is there a good website about diabetes and what I am supposed to eat to control my diabetes?
I looked around your site here and looks like you have a nice place.
Thanks
Louise
P.S. My grandchilden and half the family call me Nanie .

Hi Nanie,
I have no idea if you're interested in my way of managing my diabetes or not, but I control it extremely well by eating a low carbohydrate diet. My blood sugars range from as low as 72 before a meal to a maximum of 99 two hours after a meal. If you're interested in learning more about it, send me a personal message and I'll fill you in. If you're not interested, that's fine too - not everybody wants to go this route.

Hello Nanie,
Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. But welcome to the club. You will get lots of support here. There are lots of websites that contain useful info on diabetes. A good place to start for a laymans explanation is the How Stuff Works website :
http://health.howstuffworks.com/diabetes.htm
Fo links to more websites on diabetes, go to this page :

Hi Nanie, and Welcome! It's a pleasure to meet you, although I'm sorry you have diabetes. I'm T1, so we're going to have different experiences, but my older sister has T2 and controls it solely w/ diet and excercise, so it is possible. My favorite meter out of the ones I've had was an Ascencia (Glucometer before they changed their name).
If you need a referral to a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)/Dietician and it seem's like it is taking too long, don't feel bad, bug your doctor! Mine is the best tool in helping me figure out why I'm having problems w/ control and fixing it. You may find he/she is better at it than your doc in some respects.
Having Diabetes means you have to be pro-active about your health - you are/will become your own expert. It's very overwhelming at first, but accepting it and meeting the challenge is the healthiest way to go at it.
This is a great forum, with tons of friendly people and we're all happy to help any way we can!
