Just want to say HI. Just registered here. What I am hoping to get out of this forum is to get some information on how to live with Type 2 Diabetes. I need some opinions on what to eat and what not to eat. I know I need to stay away from CARBS. I am not wise to what is in what foods so hopefully this will help me. I plan on using this site quite a bit.

Welcome Ruth! Glad you found the forums. How long have you had diabetes? Are you on medication for it?
Many of us find that limiting carbs (esp. potatoes, breads, rice, pasta--white foods) helps keep blood sugars stable. I eat lots of salads, fresh green veggies and lean proteins. For sweets, I have s/f jello and s/f jello pudding or the low carb ice cream.
I would encourage you to test your blood sugar often. If you test 2 hrs after your first bite of food, you'll see how different foods affect your blood sugar and be able to make smarter food choices.
There's a great book for T2s "The First Year, Type 2 Diabetes," by Gretchen Becker....its a very worthwhile read.
Post often, ask lots of questions, we're all here to help one another.

Welcome to the club!
Changing eating habits is a real benefit of having diabetes.
Limit processed & fast foods (McDonalds, etc).
Limit sugars.
Favor complex carbohydrates like whole wheat bread over highly processed white bread if you must have carbs.
Eat controlled (smaller) portions.
Eat slower.
Lots of opinions here on food. I'm sure you will hear from others.

Welcome to DF. Exercise also plays a KEY role in living healthy. But like everyone has said so far, just watch your eating habits. You'll find these forums are amazing.

Actually you need to eat carbs its how our cells get food the trick is eating the right kinds of carbs.
There are several diets you can follow south-beach, Atkins, sugar-busters, etc, etc. The only one I don’t recommend is the one created by the ADA. Their idea of bg control is way to laid back.
To determine carbs subtract fiber from the total carbs. You can also subtract artificial sweeteners.
portion control is a must and do not get seconds
Foods you can eat:
Meat = Beef well trimmed, chicken, fish broiled or baked, eggs, Ham, hotdogs without bun
Nuts - most nuts are low in carbs, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, any that have total carbs of less then 10g
spreads buy no sugar added jelly or try one of several reduced sugar brands , no sugar added Peanut butter – good for cholesterol
vegetables = almost anything but corn If you eat corn stick
with the small kernel corn on the cob. Eat lots of Green beans it raises good cholesterol
Sugar free ice cream, sugar free jell-o
Chocolate that has a cocoa % >= 60% or low carb chocolate
Breads = whole grain or low carb whole grain.
Pasta = whole grain: Dreamfields, Wal-Mart has good brand
rice = brown rice, wild rice
sodas = diet only
alcohol = Low carb beer, brands like Michelob ultra, Miller-Lite, there is at two others. Red wine or wine that is at least 13% alcohol: Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey, Gin and white Rum
avoid high carb food or anything with a lot of refined sugar.
Fruit = try different ones to see how they effect your BS
if you have acid reflux avoid eating fruit at meal time.
General rule if it’s brown then its OK for diabetes
