Hi,
My name is deborah and I have type 2 diabetes. My A1C's have been horrible and my blood sugar is now 327. I am on Lantus and on humalog. Any ideas on how to get it to stay down. I am being very careful about my diet.

Hi Deborah,

Welcome to the forums, sorry to hear you are having a hard time at the moment. How long have you been diagnosed? Are you testing regularly, are you watching your carbs? Sorry for all the questions but the answers may help some of the great people here offer some advice.

Visit and post often,

Hi Deborah, welcome. Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time right now. How long have you been diabetic? How long have you been on insulin? Do you watch your carbs? Exercise?

I'm not on insulin myself, but i'm sure some of our folks who are will weigh in soon.

You've found a great place for information and support.

Use more insulin?

Has your endo or diabetes educator helped you to determine the ratios for blood sugar and carb grams to insulin units needed? For example, if you have a bs of 300 and a target of 110, how much insulin do you need to achieve that goal? Or, if you are planning to eat 25 grams of carbs, how much insulin must you use to counteract that food?

How are you managing your insulin use? Are you taking any other meds to help the insulin uptake?

Welcome Deborah

You obviously need more insulin. It's time to get to work learning how to match more closely to your needs. Get that tester out!

First off, welcome to the forums,....

How long has it been this way? Are you keeping track and also taking readings at least 6 times a day? You should be able to pinpoint what times they are worse, and let the doctors know to hopefully increase dosages. Are you exercising and not just dieting? Exercise is definitely key. I actually phone in my numbers once a week and make my own adjustments in medication (and I also let the doctor know those).

Welcome! When you say you are being very "careful" with your diet...what do you mean by this? Are you just avoiding "sugar" but not watching total carbs? Matching insulin to total carbs intake is the key to good glucose numbers. You don't have to be a "low carber" for good numbers...just be accountable for them.

Are you exercising? How is your health overall...weight is in good range? There are so many variables to having glucose problems...not all diet related. So, keep on talking to us.

You've come to a very supportive group.
