Hello,
M mother has type 2 diabetes and asked me to buy her a glucose meter. I have no idea what to get her. She does not want something with a code, or that is complicated. She basically wants to put the test strip in, drop some blood on it, and get a reading. If you can give me some guidance, I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Welcome.

What country do you reside in?

A Bayer Contour is a decent choice. I use one. It's not my favorite, but it is good. No coding required!

I use a Bayer Contour, only one I have had as I was only DX'ed 5 months ago and I got it for free from my Doctor. It's easy to use, no coding.

In Ireland and I believe other countries, manufacturers (direct or thru doctors) will often give the meters away for free as it get's you to buy their supplies. Try calling Bayer and explain the situation, they might just send you one.

If you click on the following link you can get a coupon for a free Bayer Ascensia that does not require coding. Hope that helps.
