Its decent looking. It actually has a menu unlike the garbage mm link meter. The case it comes in is a lot bigger though. Its funny how they sent me the advertising telling me im gonna get it, and then the very next day i get it in the mail.

Medtronic is sending me a free Free Bayer Link Meter. Could it be that in the US its One Touch and in Canada its Bayer? Rather have a One Touch.

arrived yesterday afternoon. So far, I love it! Instructions for turning on the pump settings are on a separate enclosed card. I test, and then press the Bolus Wizard button and there is my glucose number. Really, it is one less step to enter. With the new Carelink device, I may be able to stop recording on paper. It is too soon to be certain about that.

My only complaint is that every BG is entered as a calibration for the Minilink CGMS. This could cause problems if you don't want the BG to be used for a calibration. I haven't seen an option of disabling it for calibration or even the option of not using the current BG value for calibration. I'll stick with my Freestyle Lite......

To not use it as a calibration, before you test turn on the meter, on PUMP COMM hit OK, in that menu choose YES to turn off communication, then turn the meter off. Then when you test, the result won't be sent to the pump at all...

Yes, I still think they should fix that so that the result can be sent anyway without calibration...

To CrazyGrandma, it;s only for US users, no other countries yet.

I also don't like that there's no backlight. :(

I got & used mine yesterday, and was pretty pleased. As was said though, I don't like that every test is automatically used as a calibration if one doesn't go in & turn the COMM feature off. Oh well, I view it all as a "work in progress," so maybe after they hear from users collectively, they'll make changes or upgrade the system(s).

So would a "high" number be a reason not to use as a calibration? What are examples of these numbers that you wouldn't wish to use for calibration?

I know a few years ago on an older MM model, I had to calibrate a minimum of 4 times...so of course, I calibrated all day long! I found the chart difficult to read with all the calibrations posted...(when reviewing with the doctor)...I'm sure there is some type of "sort" to remove those from the readings. But, that was just a visual problem...I'm curious what some of those readings would do to a calibration?

I can't speak for everyone else, but if my blood is dropping or elevating quickly (due to corrective bolusing or a failed set, respectively), I'd Not want to use those readings as calibrations, because it could potentially throw the CGMS off (especially if it's "off" from the CGMS's reading). I was told by MM that it's better Not to calibrate when one's BG is dropping or elevating, as it could cause the CGMS to be "off" with its readings.

You only want to calibrate 2-3 times a day when you know you are stable and going to stay stable for awhile. When I use the sensor, I never have communication turned on. What if you think you want to calibrate, but then have something on your finger and get a funky 300 reading when you're really 115?

I was told that if we believe a reading is faulty, we can re-test & put the right reading in as soon as possible...it will then take only the latest reading as a calibration (unless if the reading isn't re-entered right away, in which case it can cause a CAL Error).

That's exactly what it is, in the US we get the One Touch and in Canada it's Bayer. I'd like to trade with you! I'd rather have the Bayer Link Meter.

The Ultra Link Meter takes One Touch Ultra Test Strips. I have no idea if it's different than what you currently use.

Does the Bayer Meter you got use Contour Test Strips?

Hmmm. never heard this before, good to know.

Even so, if your readings are very close, with a good cal factor, you should wait as long as possible for your next calibration, to keep the accuracy.

I did recently learn though that if you start a new sensor and it seems to be off, then calibrate very shortly (dont wait the six hours) and it will even out sooner.

I am still perplexed by the one person on Yahoo who claims her pump asks if the link reading should calibrate.... She seems to be the only one, or isn't describing it accurately... (Is she... are you... on DF?)
