... Months??!?

At first I was given a 100 strips and they were supposed to last me 6 months. I would run out of course.

Now I'm given a 100 strips and they are supposed to last me 3 months. My doc doesn't feel I need more.

Same with lancets but I tend to use them at least 4-5 times each before throwing them away.

WELL I have enough for at least a year....I have 10 vials of insulin in my frig and the next order is on its way...I donated some to the Am RED cross for the hurricane victims and also the director of our region (work with his wife) is sending some to a diabetic in Guam... As for testing strips I get 500 every 47th day or something like that...but who knows in January insurance may change again....uhhhhhh hate it each year when they change it on us....

As for the Lancets, I know Belinda will fuss at me about this, but I honestly don't know how often I change mine. Once every 4-5 weeks?

As for the strips, I have so many of those that people have asked to me pull down my blinds during the day:eek: .

Actually, it just depends on how things are going. Generally 7-8 times a day, sometimes more, depending on how I feel I'm feeling.

Football season is here so I gently gnosh during the day, so quite often I don't have to inject 'cause the amount of carbs is low and spaced out over time.

johnny,

I used to get 900 strips (3 months <or so> supply), but had to get a doctor's letter. At that time, I was testing 10-15 times per day.

Currently, without insurance coverage, I opt for the cheaper strips and limit the amount of times I test per day (approx. 6 to 8 or so). Normally, I don't like spacing so much time between tests, but have done pretty well thus far.

As for lancets, let's just say I use mine till they (about) bend or are so dull they barely work. lol I get a pretty good amount of time with my lancets, depending on which ones I use. I know I'm supposed to change them more often, but it's never bothered me, so I stick with one for as long as I feel comfortable with it...:D

In terms of something such as a natural disaster? Ok, but I'm only allowed 200 test strips per month. And my vials of insulin are limited too. On the other hand, I just went up to Pet Club the other day and the cat's or stacked up great for catfood, and after all, isn't that what REALLY counts?

Dewey, there is a site which tries to give free glucose strips to those who need help with them. The site is:

http://www.dfandiabetes.com/angel/

Perhaps they can help get you a few more strips.

Thanks lg.

I use a Reli-On, so strips are pretty cheap. Thanks for the link, though. It's much appreciated. :)

I love your posts, lg...You have such a way about you...even if you're sometimes mean to yourself, you're still cute! :)

Your welcome, Dewey. Have you considered the QuickTek meter by HypoGuard? I'm not sure how accurate it is but I bought one because I can sometimes find the strips on e-bay really cheap. Usually few people bid on the strips so they generally don't cost much. I've seen 200 strips sell for as little as $5.00 ($1.00 for the strips, $4.00 for postage).

A lab checked my blood sugar this morning and as soon as I get the results back, I'll have some idea of how dependable it is. The Freestyle Flash gave a reading of 50 mg/dL and the QuickTek gave a reading of 54, so it was fairly close to the high quality meter, although it was off by 8%.

As a matter of fact, Johnny, I think I do prefer cats (and most other animals) to (most) people. But that's okay. I'm going to be a decripid old cat lady after my husband passes away. I guess you could say I'm practicing......................

I get 20 vials of insulin every 3 months, 15 boxes of test strips & lancets every 3 months. I give all my extra stuff to people I know who can't afford supplies. I have boxes of pump supplies comming out of the roof. Plus I have like 5 testing monitors, 4 pens that I don't use and who knows what else is in my closet.

I change mine after each use also. The thought of reusing a lancet just creeps me out (even though I only use it on myself) LOL
Seriously, I buy a box of 100 lancets at Walgreens for 2 bucks. Even the superthin lancets fit in the device that came with my freestyle flash (they are the walgreens brand lancets)

Man! What a crazy, uneven disparity among insurance providers! I use about 4 vials of insulin, 1 lancet(if I even remember to change it), and 300 strips, each month. I have to beg, plead, borrow, and rob to get all that I need for the so/so good control that I have. It's great to hear that some aren't having any trouble with supplies. Dew, I feel for you hon'. Half-way through college, I lost my insurance with my parents and didn't have any for about 4 years. I survived on getting supplies from my little brother, my dad, and my soon to be mother-in-law. Some strips from one, a vial from another, etc........

Thanks, Arch. It's ok, as I've found many great deals on eBay (and other online sources), so I'm thankfully getting medical necessities without hassle. Often, one can find test strips at far better prices online than at their local pharmacy. I also got lucky when it came to infusion sets, as someone was selling a whole lot of them. I paid about $60 or so, and got over 75 infusion sets. Normally, the same sets (from Minimed) cost $165 per box of 24 (bent needle Polyfin 42" w/wings). Needless to say, I saved a TON of money, so I can't complain! ;) :)

WOW!! Linus, you running an underground, black-market, pharmacy?? LOL!:- If so, you taking orders online? (j/k)

I change my lancets whenever I remember to...maybe every couple of weeks??? I'm the only one using them so I figure it's okay! I have no idea how many strips I go through every month. My insurance limits me to 100 per prescription..so I might use about 100 a month. I never thought to look on E-bay! Great idea!! Lucky for me...my insurance covers all the cost of my infusion sets:D
