I purchased the freestyle flash which i really like but then realized that if i want the data cable it will cost me another 35 dollars to be able to use it with my computer... I have checked many sites including abbott to see if i could get one without the cost but they say nope if you want the cable you have to pay for it. So i guess i will pass on the cable unless anyone has any ideas?????
Thanks

I had to buy mine a few months ago. I used the link Mini Pharmacy - Diabetic Supplies (http://minipharmacy.net/product_info.php?products_id=58)
I got the link at Abbott's website. The company included shipping in the $27.00 price. Not much of a savings, but better than $35:) Hope this helps.
Also if you look around the site, you'll see the flash has been discontinued. If you contact Abbott, they should offer to upgrade you to the lite unit. They told me I would have to send the flash back to them, but when the new one came it didn't instruct me to do so. The cable and the software work for both units, in fact I have a few units working with the software. That way I can keep one in the car. You can upload multiple units to one user and all the data will mesh.

If you can find out who the Abbott Labs rep is in your area (usually your endo will give you that info), call them up and they'll give you a data cable for free. :)

I'd love one for my Contour.
Ever notice the meters come with data ports but never a cable.
Do theses manufacturers know what century we're in?

Ahh well, I can still write it in a book.

I met a Bayer rep at an expo one time and when I mentioned the number of times a day I was testing, she took my name and arranged to get a free cable delivered to me

Looks like you enter the code on the first page of the registration area, in the Group Code area , it goes thru.
So I signed up, we will see if I get a free cable.

Thanks, but . . . NO THANKS.

My data is personal. It is part of my medical history. It is not now nor will it be in the future posted on the Internet where I can not control who can see it.

I got an email today from the mycareteam.

Here it is

Member and Friends,

As you recently heard, we just re-launched our diabetes monitoring software, MCT-Diabetes, after receiving FDA clearance from the US Food & Drug Administration. As you know, MCT-Diabetes allows individuals with diabetes and their care providers to collaborate and monitor glucose levels across the Internet. Patients with diabetes transmit their blood glucose readings directly from their glucose meters to a secure database via the Internet. Once the data is stored, physicians, care providers, and family members can use the tool to monitor glucose levels, understand lab values, and examine the effects that exercise and diet have on a patient’s health. MCT-Diabetes has been in active use for several years and is cleared by the FDA.

Because you are a user of MCT-Diabetes, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to “invite a friend” to try out our software FREE for one year. Included in this one year subscription offer is a FREE CABLE to connect the glucose meter to the computer. The value of this offer is ($123.88).

To enroll, simply have your friend visit MyCareTeam (http://www.mycareteam.com) and click on the Enroll Now button at the top of the page. Fill out the registration information. When asked for a group code, enter: MCTREF08. Please note, your friend will not get the special offer if they do not enter the group code.

Thank you for your support!

MyCare Team Inc.

So what cable to buy if I want to use CoPilot with my Freestyle? I see 2 serial cables and 2 USB cables and I really don't know which to buy.

Wow you guys have to buy your cables in the states ???

Over here in UK if you phone a company and beg nicely they send them out free - or they have with me at least and several friends :)

I have the cable for the UK equivalent of the Freestyle flash called the freestyle Mini in the uk and I luv the convenience of the cable ;)

McGriff... do you have a serial port on your PC? if not you will need the usb cable..

PC atleast for many years do NOT ship out of the box with serial port... unless you order a board.. I believe.

not sure on the other cables... send me a link to the other cables and i may be able to help you pick the right one. good luck.

I bought the USB stereo cable and it works just fine. Apparently there is a USB cable that inserts into the strip port on the meter. My advice is just get the stereo cable if you have a Freestyle Lite or a Freestyle with the stereo (looks like a headphones port) port. Stay away from the serial cables unless you feel like playing Twister with your computer. Most serial ports on computers are not all that accessible.

I ordered mine from MiniPharmacy, paid the the 32.99, got a REFUND after my cable arrived. No idea why I got a refund, but I'm not complaining. Maybe Abbott is reimbursing MiniPharmacy for the cable and the customer then receives their money back? So far it has saved me a ton of time over manually entering all my BS numbers.

After getting the cable from mycareteam you can go to lifescan.com and download the free software, it's the same software your doctor uses for any of he lifescan meters

Not really. You can pay if you choose too or are impatient. I've always gotten mine from a rep or at the doctors office. They are like meters...given away--though you may have to look a bit harder.

USB with a Stereo plug is the way to go.

Look on your computer. Do you have a port that looks like this USB port? Universal Serial Bus (or… - Cyberwalker.com (http://www.cyberwalker.com/article/374) This is a photo of a USB Port.
or
Does it look more like this?

When I ordered my free cable from MyCareTeam see above info. they sent me a Serial Cable with a USB adapter. So I didn't have to figure out anything.

Here is a serial to USB adapter. The small end is USB and the funky large end is a serial port.
