Hi all

When I had all my bloods tested on DX as well as having high everything including triglycerides they also said I had a high GGT level indicating fatty liver. However, they also said it is linked to overweight, diabetes and high lipids (and I held my hands up to all three at the time:eek: ). They said the liver results could improve with everything else which I hope but has anyone else have the dodgy liver readings? I don't drink much which is why it seemed strange.

Any thoughts?

Thank the Lord I don't have fatty liver, but my endo said it is extremely common with diabetes. It is indeed all tied into the high BG, triglycerides, etc. The good news is that the liver does regenerate and can often heal itself once we start taking better care of ourselves and get our numbers under control.

Drinking can cause fatty liver. But it is also caused by high blood and insulin resistance sugar. Excess glucose with nowhere else to go finds it's way to the liver, where it is converted into fat. Some of it gets stored there, hence the fatty liver.

I had fatty liver during diagnosis (3 months back).

01/07/2008 - SGPT(ALT) - 88
04/03/2008 - SGPT(ALT) - 78
04/11/2008 - SGPT(ALT) - 59

Standard range is 2-60

My triglycerides were high too. I will have another lipid profile later this month. Hoping to see my triglycerides down.

You can definitly improve with diet and exercise. Thats what I did!

I had fatty liver at diagnosis and my liver panel was elevated. Doc told me this was very common in newly diagnosed diabetics, and if I got my blood sugars under control this should resolve. 3 months later (and every test since) it has been within normal limits.

Don't be overly concerned, just get your blood sugars under control, drop some weight if you need to and don't be surprised if you have to have more tests drawn at your next visit to make sure things are normalizing.
