Hi everybody! New to DF, NOT new to Type I--41 years, age 11.
BEEN THERE (no control, good control),
DONE THAT (U-40, U-80, U-100, NPH, Regular, Lente, Ultralente, Beef/Pork, Humulin (hate it), Humalog, Lantus, 1/day shot, 2/day shot, 5/day shot, pump in 1983--bad experience lasted 5 days, now Cozmo pump since 2004--LOVE it!),
GOT ALL THE T-SHIRTS (once hosp. 3 times 1 month w/ DKA, only child died at 2 yrs. w/ heart defect due to my bad control in pregnancy, many years w/o insurance, severe hypos w/ convulsions 10-15 times).
NO COMPLICATIONS!! Except...hypo unawareness (I think it's the Humulin), a little gastroparesis, and that's all! I test several times/day, up to 8. I like to keep my A1C 7-ish due to my unawareness. Last A1C 6.9. I have a GREAT endo in Dallas--Priscilla Hollander--most endos are arrogant jerks. One called me "little Professor" (OK, I am a college teacher, but he was calling me that 'cuz of my logbook).

So--that's me! And, my name really is Dottie Love.

Welcome Dottie.

The unawareness is due to getting old. I'm up to nine 911's myself. I'm totally unaware of many things

Some of us are learning that good control BOTH brings down A1C's and reduces hypos, incidences and severity. Don't rush to lower your A1C, but try to learn better ways to manage your sugars. If you satisfy yourself, then maybe go for it. But why try to fix what ain't broken?
