HI everyone! My name is Alice and I'm a mom of three from Ohio and my oldest boy, 14, was just diagnosed with Type 1 last week. After a long week at Childrens and learning everything we can, here I am. LOL.

Right now I have to fly, but just wanted to say hello.

Hello and welcome. I have to ask...what part of Ohio? You can PM me that if you want. I'm just east of Cincinnati. If you need any help, just ask, you've found a great site and if you're going to Cincinnati Children's, then you're going to the best hospital (my opinion.)

Hello and welcome. I have to ask...what part of Ohio?

Welcome NewMom. I know lots of folks in the Toledo area if your from that part. PM me if you wish.

Regardless of where you are...sign your son up for Diabetes camp ASAP! Many have started registration. He can meet other Type 1's and have a great time while learning a lot. There are 2 in Toledo, and CODA camps around Columbus.

get books on diet (carb counts) and foods.. resturant guides for eatting out. it not hard to figure out but you need take the time. Diabetes KIDS camps is key.. look for them in your area.. YOU will find them you are NOT ALONE!... the ADA has good list of camps... your wonderful child needs to learn this stuff for themselves... IF Y TRY TO CONTROL everything.. your child will have trouble...

the best camps are DECA camps all the group leaders are college kids with diabetes......I LOVE these places they GOD place on earth.

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks everyone!

He's done a really good job at taking everything over himself. I try to help as much as possible, or as much as he lets me. LOL.

We went to the park yesterday and he was up and playing with his younger siblings. It was really nice to see because the last time we did that he complained he was so tired and sat there the entire time. His energy has totally came back.

As for the camp, it's an option but he's gonna have to end up choosing between boy scouts and diabetic camp and I really think boy scouts are gonna win out there. LOL. we'll see.

I am about 40 miles south of columbus, so they sent us to columbus. Which is fine because I know my way there and it's not been my first trip to childrens. :)

As a Tiger den leader and Boy scout leader ( I have three boys in scouting) I vote for Scouts :)

Any way welcome aboard, I am a newly diagnosed diabetic myself and the people here have been very nice and informative.
