Today is my first 24 hours with the Minimed Paradigm. i slept good last night,it was not at all as uncomfortable as I may have thought. I am sure everyone who has experienced the switchover to a pump had problems in the beginning, at least I have. My basal is not correct and I have gone low about 4 times today. I eat dinner and now I am up over 250. I think once I get "callibrated" correctly it will be more satisfying. Has anyone else had anything similar?

Befor I could just do a certain amount of insulin with the MDI and "eyeball" it, and usually come out with good control (last A1c ~ 6.6. Now I have to have my ratios down to a tea. Until then it is a little turbulent. Any insight?

P.S. Dont get me wrong I think this pump will be phenomenal once I accept it as a part of me. I just wanted to see if I was alone on this one.

willie,

Just wanted to let you know that no you are not alone. I started on the pump on march 31st and am still working with my diabetes educator to get my rates ironed out.One thing she did tell me though is you need to correct one problem at a time. For instance start with breakfast when you get your ratios down pat there then move to lunch and so on so days i'm frustrated, but most days I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. For a little encouragement I always come to this site to check on all the successful pumpers here and pray that someday very soon i'll be as slick as they are at managing my pump and my diabetes. Anyway that's my two cents good luck and stay positive.

You should definitely do some basal testing to get your rates down. I would wait a week or two to do it though, since you're still getting acquainted with the pump.

I love mine and you'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands to take it away from me!

Welcome to the "Pumper's Club", Willie!
When I started pumping 2.5 years ago, it took a good 6-8 weeks of "tweaking" before I got my settings right.

Weirdly enough, my doc, my educator and me have apparently hit everything just right. Started the pump, never had to tweak anything, and my average reading after 2 months is 105. I like this.
