Hello I am from Kentucky!

I have lots of onetouch mini monitors that i have been collecting when deals come up and I don't know what to do with them... I donated lots already in my community. So that is why I am here... I am wondering if anyone has any idea what do to with meters.... not sure if I could sell them... would only ask for $2.00 a meter to help pay for the time I spend.... well if you have any advice for me please let me know... also are we allowed to sell on this forum?

What I would do is find Churches and other avenues that help people who can't get their hands on these little gems and donate them to them and ask them to make sure anyone with Diabetes can get the tools they need. You'd be shocked at how many people don't have access to the Internet and can get these things themselves.

We have a place here called The Angel Clinic that JUST handles people that can't afford insurance and they are always taking donations, that's the avenue I took.... I KNOW anyone that comes in there is in need, the paperwork that has to be provided to get medical attention proves that. I don't have to hand them to people in need, I just have to know they went for someone that desperately needed them. ;)

And anytime I can get my hands on a FREE monitor or supplies, I fill in those forms and gather up some of these babies and take them in...... :)

I'd suggest if you have a surplus of meters that you donate them to one of the medical charities in order to help those who may not be able to afford them, though generally most diabetics can get a free meter without problems if they know where to look.

CVS pharmacy offers a free monitor to diabetics quarterly if anyone is needing a new one. Call your local CVS to see when they are giving them out.

And I know how it is not to have medical coverage, I don't have it either, but I am insanely lucky.... it doesn't cost me a lot to take care of myself, so I can manage without the help.... for now, but it is nice to know these places exist.

EXACTLY.... example of where I live though, it is a very very small community and mostly an older generation and they don't know what the NET is in most cases...... or they are too poor to have it, or many other reasons.....

I HAVE those resources so I gather anything and everything I can and periodically go and donate them....

I am no saint by NO means, but I DO help where I can and it makes me feel good knowing someone that wouldn't have it otherwise has it. And charging for my time to help someone....... well, not exactly my style..... they'll have a tough enough time trying to buy strips.

Can you give the information to this place? Do you think they would come pick them up... I have been driving around trying to donate them and the gas prices are killing me. I have donated them to some nursing homes... and I have a church down the street to donate them too... however I have 100+ of these monitors still left I would love to donate.... I just don't want to put all the work in driving around town.... so any information on places I can call to get them to pick up would be great also.... I live in louisville, ky! I do want to make sure they are going to people that really need them though!

Got your PM and I'll make some calls today and see what can be done where you are. I am 5 hrs from you, but I know this p[lace has different and similar places in other areas. We'll get those babies to people who REALLY need them. ;)

I give them to friends (mostly type 2) who never bothered to buy a glucose meter...thinking they were "just borderline"...

When they see how small and cute they are...they are hooked!

I usually buy new ones to give a friend...along with a better lancet device than the one in the package. I also donate a vial or two of strips.

I'm amazed at the turnaround when people see me using my UltraMini...the doctors seem to just show people the confusing models.

Do you have a Rescue Mission or Salvation Army in your town? Both of these help people who do not know where to go to find the free things for themselves and would probably take the whole lot off your hands.

Thanks for being a supplier for those in need.:) Cvs does give away meters but they do not give away strips! Sort of hooks folks into buying strips from them.:eek:

It took me a number of years to find places to get free meters and I am pretty savy and on the net alot so don't think it is just old or poor folks who miss out on these deals.

Sorry Alice!! some kind of friends you have, I take issue to your statement, no offence mind-you, there's no winners in this diabetes game, rather you're type 1 or type 2, we're all in this together.

For your information, most type 2s I no, take this disease very seriously, including my-self. You die!! from all types of untreated diabetes, there's no borderline. (out of the box remark I'd say)
