View Full Version : MM clear Paradigm, why so many choose it ?

Ive noticed so many on here have opted for the MM clear pump. I will be choosing a new pump soon, perhaps tomorrow and am wondering if I may want to switch from the smoke Ive worn for 6 years to clear. What is it about the clear that makes it so popular? Maybe can see more of the reservoir, doesnt show scratches as easily, less noticeable on the belt. Please tell me what you like about the clear pump ! Why did you choose it ? Thanks, Dan

Not sure exactly why the clear is so popular, I opted for the "blue" myself. But I also get the skins...the kids at my daughter's day care will verify that it's the coolest ever..."Anna's Mom, you have the coolest cell phone, it's better than my Dad's!"
Because...only cool people select the clear. And the ultra-cool people select the Clear 722 over the Clear 522. It's true. It's science.

Hmmmmm I chose the clear because I liked it. I guess the colors didn't go with all the clothes I wear (I had a blue 508). I just liked it the best.

The clear one I had has been my favorite. I had a blue pump, then the clear, then when I upgraded from the 715 to the 722, I (for some unknown reason) picked charcoal. I think I liked it because of it was just less fussy. No real benefit as far as performance. Honestly I think I'd like a pearly white one.

OMG Pearly white sounds nice. I would have a hard time chosing between that and clear!!!

The MM guy who called me when I was signing up said that "most women prefer the clear." Hmmmmm ...............

Cause it's by far the coolest looking color. It goes with anything.
I know guys with clear in real life and online.

For the curious....here are the colors. MiniMed ParadigmŪ Colors (http://www.minimed.com/products/insulinpumps/features/colors.html)
My second choice would be the purple one, but I think I liked the clear for the "clean" look. :girl:

Let's call them and demand one!
I think the clear is more popular b/c it is more "adult" I liked my blue one when I had it, but now...8 years later it seems kid-like to me. I suppose if you REALLY like blue or purple, go for it. But what about everyone else? How about bringing the green back? (I think there was a green 507 or 508.) Or what about red or yellow or orange? It can't be that hard to mold the different colors of plastic. If you're going to make color options, at least have some to choose from.

Both my MM pumps have been "smoke" but I must admit I just got matching skins for my new pump and meter in the "Crayola Crayons" theme :T

I was getting ready to pick some cool colour... but then I realised the clear was the winner for me. As said, it goes with anything, looks vaguely tech and cyborgy, and I would guess would not show up scratches etc so much. It's a really nice neutral.
With something on 24 hours a day that's important for me. Maybe others would prefer to have their favourite colour or something. Just a personal thing eh?

I wish Smiths Medical had a clear version of the Cozmo, they only have black, blue, and green. Oh well, still really like the pump.

Oh that is just too cool. We dont have that option for the one touch link and our pumps.
I do have all kinds of cases that I put my pump in, today, Pif ( that's my pump's name, the purple insulin feeder,LOL) is dressed in a bluejean pak with Hello Kitty on it.:D

There was a stand-up comedienne who would ask a man in the audience what kind of a car he had. He would say something like, "it's a '68 Camaro with a 350 cubic inch V8 and Webber four-barrel carbs..." then she would get him to ask her what kind of car she had... she would answer, "It's white!"... "White goes with everything!" :aetsch:

When I owned MiniMed pumps (all the way from the 507 to the 512), I chose blue. One time, I got clear (when my 511 had to be replaced), but didn't like it...it was "too boring" for my tastes (if you know me, you know I love Bright colors!).
Of course, if they made neon green translucent pumps, I'd be ALL over that! lol I love the blue still, and if I ever went back to MM, that would be the color I still choose (unless if they came out with bright color choices). I like not being in the "majority." :-

I have the smoke because it looks less like some crazy tech gadget and fits with most clothes. The clear one looks like some computer.

I guess that I'm just totally un-cool then...I ordered a charcoal/smoke/gray 522. Oh, and it's arriving today! :D

LOL...Actually, it means you're a trend-setter (which is even cooler than "ultra-cool!") - You're not following the majority, hehe. :-
Congrats on getting the 522!

After making this initial post, I ordered the Smoke ! Knowing that I would be un-cool ! However, I now read and find that I may be among the Ultra-Cool, because I went my own way...Well at 70 years old, I find thinking of myself as cool not possible, after so many decades of being just ordinary ! To me the smoke color seems as a old friend, that I just couldnt say goodbye too ! My 722 is supposed to arrive today ! I'm working toward CGMS, and this is the first step! Thanks for all the great posts about this, some were so funny ! Have a super day ! Dan

ARGH! They accidently sent me a 722  I'm on the phone with the returns department right now- they're going to overnight the correct one, and UPS pick up the old one tomorrow.
I'm bummed that I have to wait again, but glad that they're willing to make the exchange as painless as possible. At least I don't have to run to UPS to ship it back, and I'll still have it in time for my start-up appointment next week.

Yikes on getting the wrong model, but good that they're going to fix it right away for you. Out of curiosity, what made you opt for the 522 instead of the 722? I used to have the MM 512...but since switching, I've always thought that if I ever went back to MM, I'd opt for the 7xx series. I figure having the extra room would come in more handy if my daily requirements increase.

My insulin needs are fairly low (~25 units/day) and I like the smaller size. Yeah, I know, it's not that much smaller.... Just a personal preference thing, I guess.

I love my mm 722 in purple.. I always wear purple and if I am not wearing purple, I just tuck it into something.. its easy enough to hide...I am not buying expensive skins.. gimme a break 20 dollars for a piece of plastic. They can take it and shove it..cute as they are they are not worth the price...

I'm considering a few things. Has anyone switched from MiniMed to one of the Animas pumps? What was your experience like?

I debated that exact thing Dewey and opted for the 7xx model. I think it probably was a good choice for me as I use about 40 units per day. BUT....I also push the length of time that I keep a canula in also. I had to start forcing myself only to put in 200u when I refill so I can't keep it in for four days. :D
Are we still debating this? If you don't get the Clear 722, you can't be cool. It's true, it's science.
