Wishful monitor thinking...

Wouldn't it be great if we could have a combination cell phone/BG monitor? Wouldn't have to carry so many extras and after all, with cameras, Bluetooth, video capabilities and mp3 players being on cell phones, why not a BG meter?

Or a combi iPod/monitor or Blackberry/monitor.

Any other suggestions? :D

I would very much like a phone/monitor combination. My phone has an MP3 player, camera, video player/recorder (as many do), and I barely use any of them. I would actually test more like I am supposed to if it had a meter on it, coz it would always be with me.

That gets me thinking... I always take my phone everywhere I go, but I don't always have my meter... hmmm...

What good is it when you leave your strips and pricker at home? Just a side thought there. The main problem is finding a company willing to take all that design on and still make a reasonable cell phone. And which carrier would get it?

Strips and a lancet can easily fit in a pill fob. The meter in a case is what is too bulky... for me at least.

Verizon, of course would carry it... why? coz then I wouldn't have to switch carriers :)

The Samsung SYNC is a great little flip phone, and the display screen is actually large enough to read!!

With all the cute little carrying cases for cell phones these days, there's plenty of room for stickers and strips! LOL.

The Freestyle folks have a nice, small meter. Maybe give them the contract and see what they can come up with.

Maybe just a cute little case that would hold a phone, meter and supplies. For the guy it could clip on their belt. Ladies would have more options.

It would be great if timer alarms came standard with meters. This way I wouldn't forget to check two hours after eating.

I am only familiar with the ultra mini and ultra 2 meters and they do not have timers.

LG made the phone, but not sure if it's available to the public there yet or not.

I also remember previous discussions here about the "cell phone BG meter."

I don't think it'd be a matter of carrier so much, just a matter of manufacturer & phone type (CDMA, GSM). Another viewpoint is that it could be an adaptable piece, like a different type of battery pack, etc. I thought they were working on designing this, but not sure what ever became of it. When I did a search here, I found a few broken links, but I think GlucoTel was one of the companies working on it. They do have a blue tooth meter that looks like it will talk to a cell phone, but then you have an extra meter and it would defeat the purpose of being an all-in-one unit.

I wouldn't give up hope, Scrabblechick. You never know what might be on the horizon in the ever-evolving world of "gadgetry." :thumbsup:

i looked at the lg phone with BG built in a few years.. but i spoke my doc and he told me that by the time the FDA would appove the device it would be too old off a phone to market... hmmmmmm new phone come pretty fast. i like the idea of blue tooth in the phone and the meter.. it will be awhile. :mad:

I like the idea but when you sit down and look at it from a purely business side i don't think it would be very profitable therefore i don't think we are likely to see any of the well known brands take this seriously, it would end up being an exercise in what technology could do, like the Bugatti Veyron that car sells in UK for £850,000 but it costs £5million per car to make!
I think i will just have to get used to things as they are. Nice to day dream tho

Don't forget technology will become cheaper over time and I think in the future we will see more integration of these devices ;). I agree that the concept is good but in practice the market hasn't court up yet.

Good idea...in concept, but I don't think it's very practical.

I tried the Freestyle Tracker that hooked up to a PDA... it was SOOO annoying. Every test you had to select the code, the attachment was large and made the meter/pda not fit into the case.

The meter I find the most interesting (and actually not tried) is the one with the meter on the top of the strip bottle. You just have to carry that and your poker.

I can't/won't use anything that I can't upload data from, but I think this is the best idea out there as far as size goes. I guess it's easier being a girl, I just throw all my supplies in my purse!

Has anyone actually opened a case on a meter to see what's inside? I'm sure it's something mysterious! I'm one of those people who are just now starting to tear "do not remove" tags off my pillows...I don't dare open a meter case!

I might try taking an old meter apart just for the **** of it. I believe you girls have the better deal where carrying your meter and stuff around is concerend, us blokes have to load up our pockets or use a bag that makes us look like a character out of Will and Grace. I tend to use cargo pants.
