... did you know Johnny that you burn more when it's cold outside for your walks? I'm always looking forward to autumn and winter because I feel my workout is really worth it.

- Be sure to make a few warming exercices before you leave your house

- Wear clothes that breathe, and in layers (keeps you warmer!)

- If it's really too cold, split your walks, let's say two 30 minute walks during the day

- Don't forget to bring water even if it's cold!

Or you could always go swimming. That's a really great exercice! Or join a gym during the winter? I got myself a skipping rope. Very good for the cardio-vascular.

Take your walk later in the day when the sun is up.Bundle up and enjoy the fresh air. Cover your head with a toboggan and wear gloves. Just think....your less likely to see all the rodents out....

Everytime I'm in New York there is always one thing you can usually find ... stairs ... walk up and down the stairs its a great exercise.

did not know that marie..though my walk takes about 1 hour..and that is plenty of time to catch a draft then cold...even if i am bundled up...though last december i wasen't planning on excersize..we had a snowstorm..and boy ever try walking in snow up to your knees...never felt more exhausted in my life...

geez belinda one of these days you will have the honor when your out and about to have a rat cross paths with you...wish i was there i wouldn't miss it for the world... :D

i live 19 flights up so i do take the stairs down instead of the elevator...it's easier..but sometimes elevator is broken..so i have the honor of walking up 19 flights and that is fun....

Johnny.....dont worry babe - you wont catch a cold from walking in the fresh air, we get more colds in the winter because we are cooped up inside with the germs more in the bad weather......go outside....AND BREATHE!!!!!! LOL

ain't it nessecary to breathe lol...i'm telling you lately it was in the mid 60's when i went out and i walk for about 3 miles...and it was very breezy and i could feel it around my throat...made me clear my throats a few times..since i am diabetic won't take me long to catch a cold...it's a little colder in nyc in the winter than it is in england..i remember last year we had a stretch of nights in the single digits to near zero...imagine me taking a walk when the temp is near zero yikes!!!

HMMMM....lets see here... I don't have sidewalks in my neighborhood. I drive to the cities greenways to walk (these are well maintained paved paths/parks through out the city). I live in the city limits but we are talking East Tennessee here! And as for the rats....well I have seen a few in my time. Use to live in a complex that had a pond infront of my deck and we had a family of muskratsMuch bigger than the average rat) that lived there. Would sit and watch them swim, neighbor would feed them (they were brave enough to follow us to the doors) and actually was thrown in the pond once (speaking of that I still have to get my revenge on that one!!! and it has been at least 10 years ago!!!!). But if you want to see it I will give you a buzz if I ever come back to NYC.

now why would anyone leave nyc for east tennesee hmmmmm..ya left nyc now your thinking of maybe coming back...women just can't make up there minds lol....as for the rats they just dont travel on only sidewalks there in apartments subways supermarkets....

UMMM never lived in NYC. Would only visit there. We don't have the subways here, never seen one at the supermarket and as for where I live there are several cats outside that are pretty plump and I have monthly pest control. And as for East TN...well parents moved here when I was a small child but was born in Chicago. Here we have 4 distinct seasons, southern charm and hospitality, and the best college football team around!!! (jump in rzr!!!). Thought of moving but really hate to pack and then have to pick out new colors for my next home........and parents are far enough away but close enough to get there within the hour if needed....

seems to me you might be overwhelmed at the prospect of living here...not that it surprises me..we just had the republican convention here..and a lot of southen folk..didn't even visit all the fine sites there are here..they were intimidated...living in nyc hardens you prepares you for any challenge...proud to be a newyorker:)

as for the vols only one time that i can remember they were the best college football team...so i think you have been exaggerating a little bit:D

Belinda

Overwhelmed is not the word I would use to describe me! For starters I have been to many large cities and fit right in. Come to think of it even other countries....As for the convention wouldn't want to be any part of that one. And for the fine sites I have been there seen them all while there and even had to tell a cab driver how to get to Broadway and mind you I had only been there for 2 days. Oh yeah it may harden you but it is all about attitude....

As for the Vols..yes we were only National Champs twice but around here we are always the best. (That is how the SEC works...the states always back their team and have a large contigency of fans...right rzr the big razorback fan!!!

as for states backing there team thats to be expected..but in the big picture of college football the vols has never been considered especially lately a great team..usually its the hurricanes seminoles the gators the wolverines and the buckeyes..that get all the top billing...

as for cab drivers.. as you know not many of them are local...not like the old days...

and for attitude no further comments are warrented lol...

You have 19 flights of stairs, are they not heated? How many in your building? Sounds like great exercise to me.

i live at the top floor which is good at least can't have anyone above me banging with there feet...the stairs each floor has windows..so its usually 10 to 15 degrees colder than the actual temp...plus a lot of people use them as there personal toilet or garbage dump..you have to negotiate not only through furniture and also puddles of pee yuk...only use them if elevator is broken...

I just bundle up and while I live in Alabama I can assure you I have been all over the world in the Air Force and Alabama cold is a bitting humid wet miserable cold. Only you know your health but proper clothing, and layering can shield you from dangers.

BUT we have more than our share of rain and I have a Stamina Brand Air Bike I use when it rains or I go to our local civic center and do the treadmill although I always prefer to walk outside. The AirBike is right in my living room and I don't care if Ms. Manners likes that or not or anyone else of higher social esteem. I know many hate to put exercise equipment in their well ordered homes, but I got over it and so did my better half. She rides it as well now.

Many local community centers have workout areas and do not advertise them. I am not willing to pay for the high cost of exercise clubs, but I pay $100 a year for my whole family to use our local civic center gym, which has 5 treadmills, 4 lifecycles, and various nautilus equipment. Call your local government and see if they have anything like this as they might and just don't advertise it like ours.

Good Luck and STAY WARM!

Nope, not really. I live in Ks., when I have to be here, and they don't know what football is, kinda like the East Coast. I mean, Harvard ?and Yale ?and Bucknell ? Kansas? Nebraska? Missouri ? Miami? PuhLease They'd all get killed if they had to play in the SEC. BTW, the reason the Vols are where they are is because they don't have to play in the SEC West, they're in the SEC East with the Wimpy, Run and Gun Girlies:- (j/k Bel)

As for the winter exercise, johnnylol , Bel and the others are right.
Yes I am anEnglkish teacher, but I'm also a second generation coach as well. I can tell you that the just spending time outside in the winter causes you to use more calories and exercising in the cool/cold weather is good for you if you protect yourself from the Rats.

You don't get sick from cold weather, you get sick from germs and viruses.
