I just sent them an email and downloaded and printed the forms. I was just diagnosed in March with type 1.5. I take Levemir and Metformin but I want to get my A1C down quicker. I do construction so its kinda hard on me to watch my diet. Maybe I am lazy. I stay very busy all the time and with two kids when I get home. I am thinking that the pump can really help me. Tell me yalls thoughts and if you use the Animas 2020 and how much you like it. I have to talk with my doctor about this on May 20th.My A1C is 10% but it was like 14% a month or two ago. The Animas looks to be the one for me. I am sure it is water resistant and durable looking. Thanks yall.

Hi,

The 2020 is my first pump and I've only been on for a few weeks. I cannot compare it to others as I have no experience of actually using them, but I'm happy with my choice so far.

When you say you are lazy with your diet, can you explain? Is it that you eat (what you consider to be) badly or is it that you don't match the insulin to the carbs / GI / general content of the meal? Pumping could help you, but it isn't a magic bullet. If you do not take the time to carb count / basal test / blood test loads etc then a pump is a pretty expensive yo-yo on a plastic tube. If you are willing to put the time into learning how your body reacts to insulin in different situations then the level of stability and fine tuning that pumping is capable of will be a very nice reward :)

I know how to control my diet but I guess I am having a hard time planning my diet for the week. In the trade that I am in we could be anywhere at anytime in four surrounding counties and alot of times we are in the mountains. I guess what I meant buy being lazy with diet is that I don't plan it very well. I am still learning on how to fine tune my carb counting. I definitely need to carry my lunch to work. Thats the meal I probably go over on carbs. I haven't been consistant with my meals either. Like eating at the same time everyday. I definitly eat breakfast pretty close to the same time but not lunch. I used to skip breakfast before I was diagnosed. I also used to skip lunch alot of times. I eat every meal now but not on schedule. I only take one shot in the morning. I am hearing this is a honeymoon stage. But I would just as well go to the pump now and get my A1C lower and get off metformin. I have highs and some lows during the day depending on hard I work and burn them carbs. I am understanding that a pump helps with consistant BG readings. Thanks Gary for replying.:)

I would recommend adding rapid insulin to your plan before moving right to the pump.

I'm starting pumping with the 2020 on Thursday. Despite all the excitement you need to remember:

1. It takes a fair bit of getting used to and 'tweaking'.
2. You still can't just leave your diabetes alone. It still takes hard work and effort to reach your goals
3. No pump will work if you're not dedicated and willing to work with it.

I am thinking my doctor will recommend that anyway. Or she will just tell me to take more Metformin. I am taking 500mg twice a day. But that stuff kills my stomach. I am never near a clean restroom. I guess I could start a round of fast acting first and get used to it. I will push for a pump as soon as possible though. I have been using the Flexpen for my Levemir and still hate sticking myself. If I have to stick myself four or more times a day then I will go nuts. I just hear so many good things about a pump. I feel I am doing good with my betes but my record keeping isn't up to par. I will do better. ;)
