Hi Betty,

My daughter is a nutritional consultant. She created a display at her workplace that shows how much salt and sugar are in various common products - including the ones in the vending machines at the gym (like VitaminWater for example). It's crazy.
Anyway, she was talking to a client about salt, RDA etc. and the client asked her "How much sugar do you need per day?". She answered "None!". There is no recommended daily allowance (RDA) for sugar.
Sugar is just one form of carbohydrate. You NEED carbs, but us diabetics prefer the healthier forms - like veggies. We also limit the total amount of carbs sometimes. Sugars come in various forms, fructose, glucose, dextrose, etc. You will get some of that from fruits and veggies. Your body which needs glucose (sugar) to operate creates it by breaking down these more 'complex' carbs, which is why you don't need to eat sugar at all.
Not to say that sugar is "off limits", plus we're all different. Keep the sugar to a minimum - go for the real cabs first.
Then there's the testing BG to see what works for you, yada yada... Keep asking questions!

Hi Betty & Welcome to the forum. You'll find nice people and lots of great information here.
The trick to keeping your blood sugars in range is to watch your carbohydrate intake and eat in moderation. I do well with apples & pears, but not with bananas. I eat a lot of salads, green beans, brocolli & carrots.

Hi and welcome to the forum: You should try eating vegetables and some meat. It will bring your sugar down very much. Eat this 3 times a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Welcome to the forum. Come back daily, and you will learn a lot.
Just so you know, there is no such thing as a borderline diabetic. That's the same thing as saying, "borderline pregnant". If your doctor told you that, get a new one now. Why do you think that you may be diabetic? Fasting blood test? A1C? If so, what was the result?
