Questions about Byetta and Insulin

Hi everyone! I have a few questions. Just started Byetta a few days ago (have taken 4 doses so far) and was wondering when people started seeing an effect? Was it immediate? Did it take several days?

Any advice for a newbie lizard spit user? :)

I've noticed a few people on the forums who list both Byetta and a type of insulin. I was wondering if you could tell me a bit more about your choice to go on both as I believe this may be something I might have to consider.

Amaryl 2 mg/day
Byetta 5mcg/2x day
Ramipril 2.5 mg/day
Fish oil, cinnamon, baby aspirin

I noticed a difference with the first shot. Actually, I had to go off metformin because the Byetta was taking me so lost post meals. I'm going to check with the doc about taking an evening dose of metformin though because the morning #s are higher than i'd like them to be.

Are you not seeing any difference at all in your post meal #s?

I try to take my injection 30-45 minutes before I eat.

I'm noticing a slight difference. Not great. But I'm also on ciprofloxacin for a respiratory infection and I'm wondering if I'm seeing some spiking because of that. Information on cipro indicates that it can cause high AND low blood sugars.

Actually the very fact that you have an infection in the first place can cause your blood sugars to be up, even without the potential rise from the Cipro. Stress (external or internal, ie: infection) definitely affects our #s.

I've been dealing with shingles and my #s have been between 20-50 points higher, even eating lower carb than usual. Only in the past 24 hrs have I noticed a downward trend...I must be getting better!;)

I leave it up to my Doc (Endo) to manage my Meds. When I started Byetta he took me off the 70/30 insulin and put me on type N. The 70/30 would have given too much of a wollop and likelu would have caused hypos. The type N starts kicking in just as the Byetta starts to fade out (i.e. about 3 hours)
