Hi guys..
Just wanted to share a small sucess.I had my doctors visit yesterday and have dropped 6 more lbs in 2 weeks! I am thrilled. I really was not expecting this, as these last two weeks I have not been sticking so strictly to my diet. Not that I went crazy but twice I indulged; once on a small 4 cheese pizza and once on ice cream.
I have come to this conclusion. On the weeks when I almost "overdo" my diet i.e eat very strictly, I sometimes lose alot but sometimes stay the same. But if I do allow myself to "indulge" on a small scale, I have found that I lose more.
This brings me to the conclusion that these little treats actually remind the body that I am not starving and therefor aid my metabolism into burning up these treats. It certainly works for me anyway. I was talking to my doctor about this and she said that it is a great way to feel that you are not being a martyr all the time, but always have a treat to look foward to.
Also I found that even when I had eaten these less than healthy foods, my BG's went straight back to relatively normal after 2 hours post-prandial.
So here's to indulging...and losing weight :D
By the way...my reward for this weight loss was....shoes! :D

If it works, it works, don't be afraid to indulge once in a while.

Yeah, I've definitely found that the occasional small treat helps the body stay in "weight loss" mode.
Here's to treats and losing weight! Good job, Lulika!

I have given up everything else I have to keep something for me. I always exercise after Pizza so the impact is manageable. My wife and I use positive reinforcement for our twins why shouldn't we all use it.

Lulika,
Well done on the weight loss. I think you are right to give yourself a treat everynow and then, and yes I would agree that the odd indulgence will help kick start you metabolism. I have done this in the past and it does seem to help.
Well done!

Ah, but this didn't just happen, YOU DID THIS through your own hard work and determination. Now you know you can do it and how it's done. Just think, once you get to your target weight you'll only need to maintain which should be easier than losing it in the first place.
I wouldn't call it being naughty exactly, just a pause in the routine.
Eyes on the prize Lulika - keep up the good work!

WAY TO GO!!! Wow, you are doing so well!!! I just finally bought a digital home scale but still need to compare it to a doctor's balanced scale soon, so I know how accurately it reads! Keep up the good work and congrats on the new shoes! :)

Kim, being a bodybuilder many years ago, my weight was always an issue. I got a really good scale, but no matter how good the scale is, you need to calibrate it against a known weight. Doctor's scales are not necessarily a good reference since they can be off also.
The best way to calibrate a scale is to take it to a gym or to someone who lifts weights. Either place will have the steel plates that they use to pump iron. Place a few small weights (maybe 10 pound plates on the scale, then place the larger 45 pound weights on top of those. Try to use enough plates to equal your weight or close to it. These plates are exact so you know what they weigh.
Once you have the weights on the scale.....say you have 2 ten pound weights (20lbs) and 2 forty-five pound plates (90 lbs). That's 110 pounds of weights. Adjust your scale so that it reads 110 pounds. Once you've done that don't touch the adjustment knob on the scale. Even if the scale doesn't read zero when there is nothing on it, it doesn't matter. No scale is accurate throughout it's range. It might be accurate at 110 pounds, but off at 200 pounds, so by using the plates to adjust it, you can be assured that the weight is correct when it's around 110 pounds.
Of course if you weight more or less than 110 pounds, then use enough plates to equal your weight.

Thanks Kim. I have a digital scal at home and find that it is exactly 2lbs (over weight) out of sync with my doctors balance weight ones. So I always take that into account!
I am finally seeing results! My waist has dropped 6 centimetres so all my jeans and pants are being held up now by a belt...instead of by my tummy! :D

Hello Lilika, I have not done anything towards loosing fat so I would have to just jelous of you. You must have some hard core Disipline to have the weight loss. Food I can say is only half of the story and I am not a foodie to understand the influence of what food do to you.
Ho gee, Whare can I start.

Kim & Lulika,
That's a good idea Hammer gave you, the piece of advice I would add is to try locate the scale somewhere that it does not need to be moved, it will be more accurate from measurement to measurement if you exclude factors such as the scales not being in the same place. Many digital scales are good at compensating for the floor they are on, but a hard surface is best, for example if the scale is sitting on carpet which has wooden floor boards underneath, the floor will absorb some weight and that may not be reflected in the scales display.

Hammer, thank you for the advice about the weights. I never step foot in a gym, so I don't know if showing up with my scale in hand would be very .... ummm... comforable! LOL! Also, mine is digital, so I don't think I can adjust the reading? Maybe there is a dial somewhere that I haven't seen? I'll check! ;)
Lulika, that is awesome about needing a belt now! I'm having a tough time losing my belly! My pants are baggy in the bottom and thighs but the bulge won't hardly budge! *sigh* Of course, I haven't been very disciplined either since hurting my two feet. grrrrrrrrrrrr.... ;)
Dave, I have my scale in my bathroom on the linoleum. I try very hard to just slightly scoot it away from the wall before I weigh. What is funny though is something that used to always happen even years ago when I weighed every day. I will take all my clothes off and weigh. Then I'll take my shower, get out, dry off and weigh again. I always weigh a pound or so heavier after the shower!!! You'd think it would be the opposite after all the dirt is gone! LOL! I do take really hot showers, so I'm assuming that I am swollen or something? Any theories on this anyone?
Oh, and just for the heck of it, my boot adds 5 pounds to my weight! LOL!

Kim, you made me laugh so much, I used to weigh myself obsessively too, befoe and after showers and even before and after a cookie!
I have my scales on a marble floor so I doubt that the floor would absorb any of my weight! :D
Peter...I really dont have alot of discipline. Not a day goes by when I almost give in to temptations. But, I cant do things by halves and in the past I have started and stopped diets and then wondered why I didnt lose weight. The diabetes DX was a heads up for me and I decided that it was truly time to go for it once and for all! :)
