Hi Everyone

As you can see by my stats I've been working very hard to get my numbers down and been on a very strict diet. My fasting levels have dropped to 5.5 - 6.9 (99 - 125). However, at the weekend it was our anniversary and my hubby took me out for a meal and I have to say chicken and salad did not appeal and the good old fried potato reached out and grabbed me as did a chocolate desert. However, I obviously took my 1500mg of Metformin (tho I have only been on that dose for 3 weeks so far) but in the morning my fasting level was 10.1 (181) and has stayed around 7.1 - 8.1 all day (128 - 146) all day and I know it will take me a few days to get it back down again. What can I do to bring it down quicker? Will the levels drop as I lose more weight? Is Metformin still gathering momentum? I haven't had one slip with my diet since I started 5 weeks ago.

I hope my learned friends can help.

Bevvie, If I have a "treat" I can always tell in my morning #s.

This last anniversary (Feb), hubby and I ate at "Cheesecake Factory," and we halved a nice piece of tres luches cheesecake...It was wonderful. I slowly savored each bite...and didn't allow myself to feel guilty.

HOWEVER...I knew I was going to have a treat, so the day before, I ate VERY low carb, had a low-carb b/fast that morning, did tons of walking that day (as we were out of town for the weekend) and after our meal we explore a local mall...so I got TONS of walking that weekend. Also, my other meals were very low carb.

What i'm saying is if you know you're going to treat yourself, you can plan for it and hopefully minimize the effects of the treat.

Watch your carbs, and your blood sugar should get back to the way it was before your treat.

Bevvie,
You non-insulin dependent type 2's have to work harder for a treat than do us insulin users. What Linda did was spot on (of course). She ate low carb in prep and exercised. That's really the best prescription for most days.

Happy anniversary!

Did you have a good time?
Sometimes that's all that counts.

You BS will come down, Relax.

I did my anniversary in Las Vegas in a very expensive restaurant and I didn't hold back one bit. It was fantastic.
I sat there eating and laughing and holding my wife's hand and didn't care what my BS was going to be in the morning.

Sometimes you gotta. Not just often.

Happy Anniversary.

Hi Art, Morissma and PrincessLinda

Thanks for the good wishes and yes we had a lovely time both at the restaurant and afterwards ;). I suppose I have just got a bit obsessed with the whole BG thing and, being a Virgo, will continue to test and record and compare and fret! However, you've all made me feel better and put it all into perspective.

Thanks

Bevvie...i'm pisces, totally opposite of you astrologically, but I STILL "test, obscess, record and fret." It takes a little time to find balance, but you're attention to detail will serve you well.

Glad you had a nice anniversary....we all need a break occasionally, a time we can feel almost "normal."

Bevvie,

Just enjoy the treat, it can be hard for us Type 2's without insulin to keep our numbers down and I agree with Linda's approach of preparing by eating lower carb in advance.

I had a really great week with my numbers last week and pushed the boat out a little on Saturday evening for dinner and allowed myself chips (fries) two hours later I hit 9.9 and the following morning I was 6.8 (I had 5.7 every morning last week). I really enjoyed my night, don't feel at all guilty and I'm back on track. My opinion is enjoy yourself once in the odd while!

Happy anniversary,

Bevvie,

I was out on a camping trip since last wednesday. I was very careful with my food. I had a few drinks every night. I had 4 light beers one night and hard liquor other nights and my morning BS readings were a little higher than my normal. Now, I'm back home and trying to get it back to how it was before the trip.

I did some morning walks but didn't do enough of it though. But like others mentioned it here, I think you got to give yourself some treat once in a while :)

The quickest way to get your numbers down is exercise. Do something that will burn a lot of calories. Most exercises that burn a lot of calories will also use up the excess sugar in your system.
