Right after I get my A1C checked every 3 months, and as long as it didn't go up too much, I treat myself to a box of Good and Plenty candy. I eat the whole **** thing. :o I know I shouldn't do this, but I figure it isn't going to show up on my next A1C. Does anyone else cheat like this?

**** yes! You have to reward good results :)
For me, it's either McD's (lol!) or going nuts on the Jim Beam & sugar-free cola pre-mixed drinks :)

I wouldn't do it with candy but I do treat myself with a hamburger from the corner store.
That bread roll hasn't spiked my bg yet
Good for you.
I do a Big Mac and fries

Yep, but I don't consider it as "cheating", like the others it's a reward for a job well done. I don't do it with candy, it's would be some carbs that I have avoided. The other question is, if your A1c wasn't good would you still reward yourself or not?

Yeah...I'd still eat the whole box. I really work hard at this and turn down office treats on a regular basis, and avoid all the "white" foods (potatoes, rice, etc.). The endo said since I don't have a weight issue, more exercise is not going to do much good. I recently started insulin because the oral meds were not getting the numbers down. I'm anxious to see what my A1C is at the end of June. Looking forward to those Good and Plenty. Thanks for responding, all, I got a chuckle seeing what folks choose when they "cheat."
Best wishes for your good health.

As far as I'm concerned thats okay too, you are rewarding yourself for the hard work and there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm dreaming of a really good burger on a nice white bread roll and the trimmings. That's my plan for a reward in June after my blood tests.

Go for it Dave ;) I've never enjoyed them as much as I do now. I get to the lab at 8am as theyre opening & by 9am I'm enjoying a huge burger with the works

When you learn that A1c results are weighted toward the more recent of the "three months" which the test covers, it's not long before most of us figure where the "wiggle room" is. It's right after you have your blood drawn for the test. I too have taken advantage of this little window of opportunity to indulge a bit - and not affect my next A1c.
This is the downside of being crafty. Sure, you get to have a little food fun, but really, gaming the system this way might fool your doctor, or all your DF friends into thinking your control is better than it really is. So your not doing yourself any favors this way.
Then again - one minor indulgence is not really out of bounds. I say go for it!

I have only had a couple of A1c's at this stage and have had a small reward afterwards, to mark the occasion rather than to try make use of the wiggle room.
To be honest I hadn't thought of having the reward in a way that wouldn't show on my A1c... that way I feel you are only fooling yourself and I'll be honest I have been tempted to try fool myself, for example having a treat and not testing afterwards so that it wouldn't be logged as part of my averages. I don't do it as that would be foolish, I suppose I'm married to my meter and so it's a case of "for better or for worse ..." hopefully that ends with "till a cure does us part" ;)

Yes, and sometimes on other occasions.
I have hamburgers on a regular basis (not everyday!) simply because it's an easy under 30g carb meal so it's no biggie for me BG wise.
I don't "gorge" on anything anymore, regardless of test results. I just don't want to do that.

Lots of Indian food! I don't gorge, either (or try not to) but an occasional dish of tikka masala isn't going to a) kill me or b) screw up my A1C that much. So I'll eat Indian.
Starting to crave some curry, right now. Yum.

Funny you should mention this. I do this too. Whatever it is that I have been craving, I get it after I get my results. I consider Day one as a FREE day. Go for it!

I cheat after I get the results of my A1C. If it's below 7.0, I allow myself an indulgence.

You know I never thought of doing that ... but now that you mention it, well what a great idea! Thanks, guys! :D
