Im from Ireland (i said that in my post in the hello section) and I'm a 'young adult' and I must say I find diabetes annoying at the moment though I've only been diagnosed 3 or 4 weeks ago.:(

Failte Joe,

Great to see another Irish person on the forums. You have found a great place for information and support. The early days can be hard and overwhelming, but it does get better.

Tell us more about you, what meds are you on? How are your numbers? What are you having problems with at the moment.

Visit often, ask lots of questions, that's how we all learn.

I'm in Bray, where are you?

Welcome :)

Yep, diabetes sure can be Ouch sometime at our age- i'm 22 aswell... But see it from the bright side... At least you didn't have to go through the teenage years with the big D! I didn't either... I was almost 19 when diagnosed.

Take a deep breath and relax. Everything will be fine :)

Many of us say that getting type 1 has opened our eyes up to a healthy lifestyle: diet, exercise, relationships, etc that may have well passed us by otherwise. It has a way of keeping you grounded in life.

breakkie = cereal and bread

lunch - something small like a wrap with chicken and veg

dinner - proper fooood !!

Im not counting carbs or adjusting. im on fixed dosages for the moment but will hopefully be able to correlate insulin to food eaten eventually.

I hope you can come around to seeing the benefit of counting carbs.. and adjusting to it. I was diagnosed type 1.5 as a 37 year old man. It was a shock and it took a while to sink in.. this is everyday and every meal. However.. like anything else you do everyday you get better at it. Soon enough you'll know what to do and you'll feel you control it and not the other way around.

Hi Joe,

Im another Irishman - 30 years old and have had type 1 since 1986.

Yes it is a huge pain in the arse (literally :) but you'll be surprised how quickly you'll adjust. My levels are fairly well under control now - (somewhat due to the insulin pump (I got in Oct last year) but during my teenage years my control was all over the place.

Trust me - It'll all settle down and before ya know it all the girls will be after you for dietry tips :P - Happy Days !!

its not that I wont come round its that its not been given as an option. I will ask when I go the hospital today however when I will be able to adjust insulin compared to what I eat. I hope it goes ok. It seems to depress me each time I visit the hospital or GP :(

Also dross no fear of women - I have a lovely girlfriend who I am visiting next weekend :)

Push for it, but realize it's a critical skill that opens up a world of risk. My nine 911's attest to the dangers. My retinopathy is the other side of the coin. They want you to have some experience first. You'll get there. Be patient.
