If you haven't guessed...I am back on the pump once again ! :p I guess it's getting hard to keep track of whether I am on or off of it(not that I can blame anyone, LOL), but I made the decision to put the pump on one more time on Thursday. My endo. told me to feel free to go back to the pump at any time that I feel comfortable enough, so I took the plunge. Actually, I am trying out "the Untethered Regimen"...which is using Lantus along with the pump. I know that some might ask what is the sense in that, so let me clarify a little.

I have had a lot of problems with the pump, mostly due to the pump not delivering insulin as it should properly (either from infusion site or set issues) leading to extremely high blood sugar. My pump did not set off an alarm or anything and I lost a lot of faith in the pump working for me. Now that I am on Lantus with the pump, I don't have to worry so much...i know that having the Lantus there is like my backup plan if something should go wrong. I basically take 75% of my usual Lantus insulin and then whatever the last 25% is I program the pump to give it to me over the 24 hours. I still have the great features of bolusing with the pump when I eat something and I am able to disconnect from the pump for a good while w/o worrying too much (like when I exercise).

So far, so good ;). No major problems to speak of-Thank God :) It still is early to really know if this approach is really going to work for me, but I am optimistic that it very well could be. My endo doesn't yet know that I have started this, though we have talked about it and he doesn't object to me trying it. So hopefully on Wedneday (my next appt.) I will have some good readings to show him. Usually, I wouldn't have done this w/o notifying him in advance, but seeing that he is leaving the practice ( :( ) I want him to be able to see some of my results from using this approach.

Just thought I would update you all...I'll let you know how things continue to go. Hopefully, it will continue to be positive news~ ;)

Sounds like a plan! Hopefully it will work out well for you and you have great #s.
My son, Thomas, has been on the pump since Dec. and sometimes gets #s in the upper 200s. We think maybe air gets in the tubing. ??? Sometimes we have no clue. But all in all its been great for him.
Good luck.

That's wonderful news Andrea! :D And whatever it takes to get your BG's within your personal level of control is what you should do and makes absolute sense to me! I'll have my fingers crossed that it works out for you.

Keep us posted and keep fighting the good fight!

Thanks so much, ladies! ;) I am so glad to have you all here rooting for me...it 's a big help to me! .

I still have had a couple of readings that weren't so great, but that was the way it was with being solely on injections too. I guess I'll have to give it some more time before judging whether to stay with this regimen permanantly. Hopefully, it will continue to work out...I like being able to use Lantus and the pump. But if not, I'll have to do what works best, which might be going back to just injections :( . So we'll see what happens.

Thanks so much for all your replies!
