Hi Gals and Guys,

I'm me and I'm new. I've been meaning to find a Diabetes forum like this for a while but never got around to it.

Well, I just graduated from University of California, Irvine with a B.S. in Information & Computer Science. I was diagnosed with Type I when I was 16 (6 years ago) after getting a physical for swimming season (I was MVS three years in a row and team captain for the same three years. I placed for zone every single year and when to state 3 times. I love swimming and I am trying to get back into it.) At Irvine, I wanted to do something different than swimming so that I tried out UCI Crew. That was a very fun experience.....and very hard. I only did that for my first year because my curriculum for ICS was too time consuming. I really enjoyed my time at UCI too.

I have quite eclectic tastes as you will come to know (and probably not understand.) I add a lot of humo(u)r to everything I do verbally and physically.

First, I love being active; I still love swimming (and I want to find a Master's swim program where I find my job.) I love weight lifting, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, and skipping.

I like computers and computer games. I am an aficionado and collector for Adventure games (you know, the old style games where you solve puzzles and click on the sceneries and stuff..) Adventure games are my favorite because they are a lost gem that still is shining bright. There is amazing talent and ideas that go into adventure games. The main forum that I frequent is called Just ADventure Forum branching from Justadventure.com, which is the biggest ADventure game website on the web. I also like other genres like action and rpgs; I critic these games much more than adventures because they have to be really fun for me to play.

Yes, I am nerdy. Yes, I am tall. Yes, people think I'm neeto. And yes, people think I am handsome (I think so sometimes too.)

I like reading. Mostly adventure and satirical novels like those by Clive Cussler and Terry Pratchet, respectively.

I love Macguyver (did you know that dictionary.com has this in their dictionary; however, they have is spelled wrong.) I love Seinfeld, Stargate SG1, and the Family Guy. I freaking love zombie horror movies like Evil Dead and Dawn of the Dead. My favorite movie style is Post-apocalyptic....oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

I love 80s comedies like Spies like Us, Airplane, and Hudson Hawk.

One of my most favorite recent movies is Napolean Dynamite......holy crappies this movie is awesome. If you haven't seen it and you grew up in the 80s, you gotta see it.

You'll soon see that I like almost all movies...I do not critic them like my games and music.

My music taste is definitely the most unique, expansive, and strange but I will leave this for another time....all I will say is that my favorite genre starts with a "D"

SO that is a little about me (and my squeaky shoes.)

I wanted to join this forum so that I can socialize with ya'll and continue to stay active in the diabetes community (plus give you guys and gals some swell humo(u)r.)

Let me say some more about my diabetes. I've had excellent control since I was diagnosed. I did not have to change much of my eating and exercise because it was pretty much in place. Currently, I am on Humalog (Lily pens) and Lantus and I use a OneTouch UltraSmart. My last HbA1c was 6.2, and I think this next one will be 6.

Oh, and since I've graduated, I am now in Reno, NV whilist I apply for jobs for Southern California; I am looking for Software development or engineering or such........

Anyway, let the games begin.....or threads......or.....ummm......something random like........ seagulls........

Hi stooge, nice to "meet" you.

great introduction there - but just one problem with the title of your thread.

I hate tea, so can I have a cup of coffee instead please? LOL

I'm a Type 2, diagnosed about 3.5 months ago, so still trying to find my feet with some aspects of this new way of life. I have 2 kids, aged 8 and 9, a hubby, a dog and a hamster!!

Looking forward to reading more of your posts

bye for now :D

Hey STooGE Welcome to the forums!

Nifty intro tittle. I can tell we are in for some interesting conversations. You may want to check out the NAME WITH FACE (http://www.diabetesforums.com./showthread.php?s=&threadid=1313) thread so you can associate a face with some of the names. You might want to put your face in there as well since your so "GOOD LOOKING."

Well you can pour me a "cuppa" :) Milk with one Splenda please :)

Many of your favorite tv shows were made in my part of the globe so you at least have the advantage of seeing the area I'm from Stooge. I'm also a HUGE Cussler fan so we would appear to have at least a few things in common :)

Welcome to the group :)

Hello and Welcome, Stooge. I'm T1 myself for 13 years on MDI. It sounds like you haven't let the Diabetes slow you down a bit and I think that's great. So many people think that Diabetics can't do so many things.

Since you're making coffee for Beadie, can I get in on that? With tons of half n half, please!:)

Anyway, it's nice to meet you and I hope you visit often and make some new friends!

Hello Stooge and welcome to the forum!!! You will find this forum very informative and friendly!

I have had type I for 34 years and am waiting for my foot to heal (ulcer that was operated on) so I can go back to being "active" on the waiting list for a pacreas. I think that I am the only (posting) diabetic here seeking a transplant.

Harold is right......many faces in Name with Face.

I only like tea in the winter. lol

Welcome!!!

Take care all,
Liz

Welcome to our little group (that's always growing, it seems :) )

i am also Type 1, have been for about 2.5 years now, dx'ed at age 24. It's something that has totally changed my life and outlook on life. I realized from that moment how important health reallly is. I guess you don't know what you got 'til it's gone...like the song goes. Well, i shouldn't say that my health is completely gone, but now it's more likelly to be problematic.

I've had my difficulties with controlling the disease, but for the most part I think I'm doing ok. I do my best to take care of myself and I guess that's all you can do.

It sounds to me that you are doing pretty well managing Diabetes ontop of everykthing else in your life...good for you  I hope that continues for you!

Anyway, nice to meet you again and please feel free to drop in and see us anytime! ;)

Why don't some of you like tea? It's so very good for your brain (and not tons of caffeine).....

I love earl grey, green, chai...but mostly earl grey....persian earl grey....

During my job for my last year at college, we programmed most of the time so that we were in front of a computer for a while.....and we would have our daily tea break.......it was swell.......

And maybe later I'll find a pic to shove over to my website for the "Face with Name" thread........

well gotta do some errands........

and boy do my forearms hurt after lifting yesterday.....(you will come to know this well.....my complaining).......

Hiya stooge!

So glad to have you and the bonus of your good sense of humor here. :D

Iced tea (any flavor), hot tea (any flavor), latte and coffee... all with Splenda by the ton (like things sweet) or Stevia. I'm currently on an "Arizona Peach Iced Tea, no carb with Splenda" kick.

... tea has lots of caffeine too. Why would anyone in their right mind have a hot drink without the caffeine buzz anyway??!? :D

stooge4444
09-22-2004, 02:21 AM
Not all teas have caffeine.....

Caffeine doesn't do anything to me because I can have it right before I go to bed and I still go to sleep quickly........

So that means than anyone in their left (or wrong) mind can drink tea without caffeine.....is that right (or wrong or left)?

Can't stand the stuff - don't like the smell - it looks gross (especially with milk in it), and it's far too over-rated IMHO!!! (try telling that to my hubby tho - he drinks it by the gallon!!)

But, if it IS good for the brain, guess that explains why I'm so dumb LOL

:stupid: :whistling

Ah, a man after me own heart, especially on those nights when the winds of Oz are howling and the wind chill is running in the minus 30-70 F(-34 to -56 c)

Welcome Stooge and I'll take a double espresso... mmmmm.... espressooooo.... argggggg.....

I freaking love zombie horror movies
Oh my god... You HAVE to go see "Shaun of the Dead"... I about died laughing. No pun intended! All I need is one question to determine what kind of person you are:

Do you like slow zombies or fast zombies?

stooge4444
09-23-2004, 02:27 AM
Totally dood....

I've been waiting for Shaun for a long time......my friends at the other forum described it to me when it came out over there.....

Do you like slow zombies or fast zombies?

Man, as long as the zombies rip flesh apart spraying guts, blood, and other condiments all over the room and camera and they die horribly in gruesome ways.......I'm there........

Fast zombies. Gotta be fast zombies. :D

So what does that say about a person? lol

I was sure all teas had caffeine! But I still don't like tea :D

I'm just like you Stoo, I can drink a coffee and go to bed afterwards. When I toss and turn for 5 minutes I call that insomnia... ;)

Hi Stooge,

I'm new here and like some of the other posters, recently diagnosed with T2D too. It sounds as though you are well in control of yours, and have loads of energy. I'm pretty eclectic too, but I am not so sure I follow you in your taste for earl grey - OMG it's...it's...D'you know, I can't think of a nice word for it; or your taste in movies for that matter.

I have just gotten on to this ice tea craze. Mine's with lemon too, please; not to keen on one with passion fruit.

FOR MARIE - The tea I like best and always make, is more like boat-varnish.

All the best, stooge

Keith:-
