I just got back from 9 days in Costa Rica. The trip included whitewater rafting and snorkeling among other amazing adventures. I used a pump bag from ek-access on both those "high water" days and in the pool at the various lodges. The bag worked perfectly and my pump and blood sugars all survived the trip with hardly a bump. Now if only minimed can make their infusion sets less space consuming to pack...

I bet that was an awesome trip Mike.
I have lived a sheltered life. Never been out of the US and have only been to 2 other states besides the one I reside in. Pitiful, huh??:(
Glad you had a good time and I hope there are pics. :D

Thanks Cin. It was a fabulous trip. I hadn't had time to test the waterproof bag before we left so it was a great thing to pull my pump out dry after 4 hours splashing around the river.
BTW, the flights to & from both stopped in Charlotte. San Jose, Costa Rica is closer to you than San Francisco!

Dude, I'm only about an hour from Charlotte. If you are ever in that area again and have a layover, let me know. I'll keep you company. LOL.

Cin,
I really appreciate the offer but by the time I reached Charlotte, I'd been traveling for over 12 hours - NOT a pretty sight.
Maybe if was on the way out to somewhere...:D

Well, if you are ever in the area again, let me know. I've been told that sitting in an airport is no fun.
Of course, my offer is open to anyone coming through.

You're welcome Mike.
I love meeting DF members and hope to meet more in the future. Looks like I have a meet up planned for 2010 when Davef and his family are in the States. :D
And to set it straight, I am married so I don't deal with jealous spouses/fiancees/significant others/whatever. LOL. :D

Morrisma,
Did you use this bag to keep your pump dry while rafting, while it was still attached to your body? Or was this just a bag to keep your pumping stuff in while it was stored during your trip?
The reason I ask is because I am going canoeing next week and I am trying to find a way to wear it and keep it dry. I know 100% that there will be canoe tipping going on and I know I will fall in the drink multiple times.
The trip will be one of those 4-6 hours trips so I cannot go without it plugged in all day.

MacDogg, I kayak with my pump all the time and use a very small roll up dry bag. You roll up the tubing so it sticks out of the top. I wouldn't suggest purposely swimming with a dry bag covering your pump, but it would protect it from an accidental dumping. You can also use a Medtronic sport cover, but they are hard plastic and BIG.
A Medtronic pump is actually water-proof if there are no cracks or splits anywhere on your pump. Problem is, the cracks can be very hard to detect. They usually end up around the battery cap or area where you insert the reservoir.

Thanks, notme.
I just searched and saw your post about REI. Great thing is there is an REI store about 10 minutes from where I live and it's on the way home! I'll stop by there and check this out.
I did a search on their website for 'dry bag' and there were too many results but I'll keep looking.

Bag held the pump and kept it dry while it was attached. Very clever little device. The pump slips in the bag and the tubing passes through some foam and a little clip. Excellent product.
