After about 4 months of struggling recently (and 4 months last year) I think i've finally managed to work out what's wrong with me :)

Hopefully this may be able to help others in the same condition I'm in (lightheadedness, confusion, foregetfulness, hugely ill...Just some of the symptoms I have although there are many more).

I've been to my doctors multiple times, had no help from my diabetic team, everyone said I was making it up and should see a pychologist...I'd like to thank people on the forums for trying to help me with this and giving me support when no-one would believe me.

I scoured the internet and found my symptoms related to "reactive hypoglycemia" but when I approached a doctor with it he also said it was in my head.

After going through the causes of reactive hypoglycemia and ruling some out I was left with allergic reactions and I realised that my lightheadedness and confusion generally happened at 10am which is about the time it takes to digest food. I started eliminating gluten from my diet which had no effect, then I eliminated lactose which also had no effect.

After reading more articles I realised that one of the causes stood out, Candida

I went on this site:

National Candida Society - Home Page (http://www.candida-society.org/ncs/index.htm)

and researched it, I did the "spit test" from the site which suggested that I had it.

Then I went to another doctor who said it wasn't candida.

I decided to get my own test for £70 and used this lab because it was recommended by the candida society site and is also used by insurance companies.

Candida Antibody Profile - Saliva - Diagnostic Laboratory Testing for Wellness & Preventive Medicine - Genova Diagnostics (http://gdx.uk.net/index.php?option=com_gpanel&Itemid=2&task=view&nav=doc&id=104)

I got the results back yesterday that say that according to my antibody reactions I have candida in its early stages with symptoms and my body hasn't been able to control the infection.

I'm so glad I decided to do this, I've read blogs of people who have had candida for 20+ years and lived unbearable lives and develop complications such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (to name but a few).

Candida isn't taken seriously by the medical profession because we all have it in our digestive system but in 20% of people it grows out of control and releases damaging toxins and can cause leaky gut syndrome. Diabetics are more likely to get it due to our suppressed immune systems and the high carb diets we usually eat.

------------------------------------------------------

My plan now is to see a dietician (I booked one 2 months ago....thank you again NHS for not even managing that)
See my consultant
Lower my bloodsugar because high bloodsugar feeds the candida
Buy some anti candida books on amazon
Go on the most restrictive diet I imagine is possible to kill it :P

I need to go on an extremely restrictive low carb diet, I'm going to read the forums and try and ask questions about how other people are managing with general low carb diets. I'm hoping my clinic will help but I have no faith in them.

Here are the things I'll have to avoid:

Sugar, yeast, refined grains, malted products, anything fermented, cows milk, fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, pepper, salt, smoked or cured fish or meat, mushrooms, caffine, sweeteners, preservatives, spices/curries

.........Worst thing of all is no alcohol because nothing fermented! *rocks back and forth*

I think I might be allowed potatos which is good because potato's are my staple food source besides bread which I can't have any more...I'll have to buy some books and research this further.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Please do this test if you want to know if you have Candida, it causes a wide variety of symptoms and the test is as simple as spitting in a glass of water one morning:

Thank you

Congratulations John on being your own best advocate. I hope now, you can get some help. Keep researching! I've found answers the same way. Most of the time, I know what's wrong before I even see the doctor. Wishing you the best.
