Lilly now has a new line of disposable pens called the KwikPen. I don't have one yet, but it looks and works very much like the SoloStar, but a darker color. Everything else seems the same. Same insulin varieties, same amount in a pen, same storage instructions as the older style pen. 1-60 units, no half units.

Looks to me like the only disadvantage is that with the old style pen, you can guesstimate how much you took after you inject (if you forgot) by counting the diamonds that appear. The advantage is the different color of the pen, making it easier to distinguish from the Lantus SoloStar.

The biggest advantage is the FREE OFFER!!! You get a box of 5 for FREE!!! Did I say FREE?

Here is a link to the Coupon (http://kwikpenvoucher.humalog.com/voucher.cfm).

Owlyn,

I just started insulin two months ago. I'm using the Kwik Pen. I also found the coupon! Yippee! Free insulin! I don't know if it's better than the other pen since I've only used this one. I've only done one dumb thing with it (so far). I should have put my reading glasses on when I dialed up the dosage. I sure figured out about an hour later I probably gave myself a bit too much. It might have been nice to see how much it was. Lesson learned: keep reading glasses with my insulin pen. I'm sure I have a lot more to learn but so far, so good. My numbers have dropped dramatically.
Best wishes for your good health.

is it just me or is the pen too small for the needles

The only issue I have with it (in my occasional use of it...) is that it doesn't make that clicking noise when your finished pushing in the dose.

Other than that... I recently got into a slightly heated argument with someone who told me that they couldn't use it because it wasn't the same stuff as THEIR Humalog pen. They were convinced it was a different insulin. Sigh. In case anyone is wondering...it is the same insulin...different packaging.

what I mean is that I use the original white pen which is a little bit longer........I attach my needles to the pen and keep the pink cap on.......if I does this with the kwikpen it bends the needle because it is so much smaller

Maybe just you... (sorry, you asked!) I haven't noticed any issues. We used them at camp with the same box of pen needles we used with the Novolog, Levemir, and Lantus pens.
