Well...It's been a while since I have vented (really it has, lol :) ). And I guess that time has come again. Today was really a day of aggravation and I think I need to let it out. :o

This morning I went about my business getting ready for work, ate breakfast , took my Lantus shot, BUT fogot to bolus for my breakfast! How stupid! I was kicking myself for doing being so absent minded. By the time I tested, about 11 am, I was 300, yikes, and of course it's too late then. I gave myself a correction bolus, but my blood sugar would not budge, even after exercise. It stayed in the 200 to 300 range. After work, I changed my site ( a little early before really needing too), but I wasn't about to take any chances. I also changed the battery. I did have a low battery alarm this morning, but didn't change it til after work. I am wondering if that was the problem with my highs. Does low battery affect the delivery of insulin? I don't know if that's a stupid question. Anyway, I tested 2 hours ago and I was down to 75, Thank God! :) I know that not bolusing is not a good thing, but I am wondering if the low battery also caused my blood sugar to stay elevated for most of the day.

I think part of my forgetting to bolus was due to me rushing around. I usually run into problems whenever I rush, but yet I am always rushing. Yesterday, I was rushing again and lost one of my credit cards and I was freaking out. I was so worried some person could be doing some shopping with it. Thank God I retraced my steps and found it, unused luckily. I think the moral of he story is to time myself better and be a little more organized, but in actuality I highly doubt anything will change. :whistling However, I hope that when I am rushing I at least don't forget to bolus again. ;)

Wow Am, bummer day, sorry ... But buck up little camper, we still have arts and crafts hour later! :D

Not that it is a trick, but I remember to bolus by making my meal, getting it to the table, and then go bolus. Then I can eat. It sounds funny, but I think of eating as a little reward for myself for remembering to bolus. A little strange, I know... my wife laughs at me! (now that I think about it, she laughes at me a lot... she says she is laughing with me, but...) So far it has worked for me. But like all of us, I will forget one of these days and I will be so @#%$&@ at myself...

Any who... I am glad you are back on target and I hope you feel better for venting. You know you always have a keyboard to lean on.

Of course if you did that, it would look less like venting and more like lsdkf; ja;wlkethaweo89yt4?MCnv'aeli5hya93w4 S"KDfh' aw6th5y2'906YWSDHGV;xlkCH,VB 'AW94Y62349y5"asodFV :slkHDF 092346y24'RkfjzvjcxkVJPAES5U60w8zS"D;gja'2496yy63q490 ...

eh, but you know what I mean.

I have also found that, if my blood sugar goes over about 15 (270), it is really hard to bring it down again. A much bigger bolus than I expect is required to get the blood sugar back into the target range. Apparently, the higher your blood sugar is the more resistant your body becomes to insulin.

Cheers,

Mark

Andrea, I'm glad you were able to get things back in order. I did the same thing about a week ago--what a PITA! BTW, some friends and I did a little study of my blood sugar control by what day of the new infusion set it was, and we found that by the 4th day, my blood sugars became much more variable. They tended to run a bit low on the first full day, then rise a bit on days 2 and 3, and then become somewhat erratic and higher on days 4-6. After that, I decided I would switch sets and sites every 3 or 3.5 days. I think it's helped my control a lot.
Cheers,
David

Andrea,

I have had battery trouble like you mentioned. No one else said so.....but, at least you know there is one other like you out there.

Take care all,

Liz
