I am just curious as to what you MDI'ers like myself are taking for units for your night time basal.
I realize that some of you split this.
I am still taking 10 units of levemir each night.
How about you?

Right now I'm taking 20u of Lantus at 9 PM for my one basal shot. It was down as low as 14u for a while earlier in the year and was up to 26 units a few weeks ago.
I always try to keep an eye on what the numbers are doing to see if maybe adustment up or down is warranted.

Hi
I found my own insulin needs were totally out of whack with Lantus, and that splitting it made little difference and I couldnt cover myself at night adequately without having too much insulin the next afternoon, so what i am now doing whic btw is working amazingly for me, is taking somewhere between 6 and 10 units of lantus around 8pm (depending on exercise and hormones) then around 1030pm i take 4 to 5 units of isophane (known variously as NPH, insulatard). this regime allows me to go to sleep at 5mmol, wake up in the same place and not deviate too much from it if i time my rapid acting correctly (amazingly am achieving post prandials of less than 7 these days - WOW!)....life really is sweet at the moment...sorry, i sound like im gloating, just makes me very happy after a lot of struggles over the past few months!!!

I am almost embarrassed to post my 100 units of Lantus at bedtime! I was splitting it, but seem to do better with the fasting numbers with just the one. I also average 20 units of Novolog per meal. But, I think my A1C will be close to or under 6 this time.

During a 4 day vacation from the pump (a couple weeks ago), I did great with 20 units of Lantus at 7am. I was shocked at how steady it kept me. I went to bed w/perfect bg, and I didn't even wake up high.

That's me too.
I do 24 units at 7AM and no night-time hypo.
When I go to bed at about 150, I wake at about 80.
My current basal regimen:
0630 = 2U NPH + 4U detemir (not in same needle!)
1130 = 8U detemir
2030 = 19U detemir
That gives me my desired 10 mg/dL overnight drop, then holds me flaaaaat the rest of the day. We're talking tails and ramps matched, BG not moving unless I'm eating, bolusing, or exercising.
I just hope that my needs don't go and change now that I found this routine.

I take 23u of Levemir at 11:00 pm, and then 17 more when I wake up, usually around 7 or so.
I split Lantus, currently 4U @7:00am, 4U @7:00pm - down from 6+6 two weeks ago
I just hope that my needs don't go and change now that I found this routine.
I wish!!!!
