is red bull light safe for me, as a diabetic, to drink?

i think it has all the caffene of normal red bull minus the sugar, but i'm not sure of what it really is.

It would depend on what the carb count is. Although I've heard of it, I'm not familiar with it. The other concern would be that caffeine can cause your b/s to rise, but if that hasn't been a problem before, I wouldn't think it would be an issue now.

Welcome, by the way!

I know in the US (I'm not sure where you are from) the proper name is Red Bull "sugar free" I would think that there are no carbs

Although, just because something has 0 sugar doesn't mean it has 0 carbs. I think that statement holds true for things like cookies though, not soft drinks. I think they are always 0 carbs if 0 sugar. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

On a side note, look at the "sugar free" cookies in the store. They have no sugar, but they have just about as many carbs as regular cookies. Hmmm... I'd rather have the real cookies!!

One last thing. if you are going to be bad and drink alcohol :- , a drink called a "Jager Bomb" is really good. 1 shot of Jagermeister and a can of Red Bull. (all the caffiene and alcohol will really screw with your sugar though)

Are these energy drinks really any use or just a bunch of hype? I have never tried one, but they seem to be a fad, and an expensive one at that.

i Have not either, I think caffeine works better, and also works as a fat burner..

8 oz. of Red Bull has about 80 mg of caffeine close to the same of a typical cup of coffee. There has been studies that says caffeine decreases insulin sensitivity.

well the reason i ask is that i do occasionally drink. i am a student in the uk, and do keep my blood sugars under close control. but there are times when i go out and drink alcohol, and would like to enjoy a drink of red bull (suagr free variety of course!) and vodka.

i see that someone posted it has 3 carbs none of which is sugars. this seems like it would be ok for me to drink on a "night out". i just had to wonder about the caffeine, does it affect a diabetic more than a non-diabetic?

(and thanks for the nice welcome u guys!)

Well,
I have read it does affect diabetics more becuase it decreases insulin sensitivity. I try to control my caffeine intake , but other times, I need some to get going
In my opinion, it varies. You can test it out to see how you react to it. It does contain 80 mg. How much caffeine do u intake daily?

well i don't like coffee, so i never drink that, i used to drink a fair amount of coke each week, but i've cut that way down, and drink bottled water at home, coke when out.

i guess the only real way to find out is to buy a few cans, sit at home and see what happens to my blood sugar. then at least if i don't react well i'm not gonna be collapsing in a club with people thinking i'm a drunken idiot.

like to hear if anyone else has tried this drink tho. would help my confidence in trying it. :)

I like to have a cocktail once in a while

Jim and Coke, Jack and Coke,
Seven and Seven, Jim and Seven

I always ask for diet form of coke or Seven-Up and just test a little more often 'cause I know that alcohol will cause B/G to drop like a stone if not careful:D

I drink one called Pirhana occasionally. It does give you a kick or a jolt of energy when you need it-sorta like a cup of coffee.

i can handle the beer when i go out, i just fancy a change, and the vodka red bull mix is cheaper, and as a student, i have to save the pennies
