I see people say their BG was 18.4 or 7.9 or 5.2... I have only known about the sugar readings 123, 72, 101 or the A1C's 17.5, 11.4, 11.2, 9.8... I know BG is blood glucose but how do you figure it?? is there a meter that tells you??

Please answer.. Curious

There's a "converter" you can use to the right of the screen under "site navigation" that will allow you to see both results. Here in the states, we use mg/dl for our results, while other places use mmol/L.

It's kind of like miles and kilometers ;)

As Linda says there's a converter in the right panel, to convert mmol/L to US (mg/gl) multiply by 18.

Funny thing is since joining the forum I often find myself looking at my meter and converting it to the US units. Completely threw a friend last weekend when we were talking about numbers and I started speaking American :)

If I was a sexy glucometer user interface designer... I would display both numbers and let the user configure which number shows up with bigger print.

I don't have a converter under Site Navigation. Am I using the wrong skin? My screen is grey and blue. It shows:

Using the gray screen, you'll have to go under "tools" at the top left and you'll find the converter there.

i never knew there was a converter tool on the site but a simple calculator does the same job! take your reading that you get on you US calibrated machine and divide by 18 and you have the mmol reading.

The "American" units aren't American enough for my liking. I want a glucometer that displays output in ounces per gallon. Bonus points for binary display of IEEE floating point numbers.

:D

At the risk of seriously hijacking this thread, and being wholly unhelpful... you forgot to drop the leading "1", which is implied in IEEE representation. :vroam:

I'll go back to my corner now. :whistling:

We just have to be different don't we?

CShirley I think it's also important to note that mmol is not the same measurement as A1c's (which are percents) A reading of 7 mmol/L (126 mg/dl) is not the same as a A1c of 7.

Likely in the set up in your meter when you set the time and date, one of the options is mg/dl or mmol/L. All of my current meters have this option. Somehow I changed it when I was much younger and was severely confused.....

Good Point... I'm sure too many folks fall into that misconception that an A1c (aka HbA1c) of 7% is the same as an average Blood Sugar (BS) of 7mmol/l ...when it is actually closer to an average of BS of 9.5mmol/l or 171 mg/dl :)

Somehow I changed it when I was much younger and was severely confused.Reminds me of the time I was playing with my insulin pump and discovered you can change the menu language to some that don't even use the Alphabet that I recognise... and I do mean it changes the language for ALL the menu options... even the ones needed to change the language back to English :stupido2:
