Macular 1

Have just had the latest digital photography check up on my eyes and I have one small white spot in each eye due to a small amount of leakage, possibly being rated as macular1 in one eye. Apparently I will get a letter in a few weeks with another opinion.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone can tell me is this something that can be improved with lower blood sugar control, or are these leakages non reversible?

I'be never heard the term nor can I find it with Google.

It sounds like the start of background retinopathy. Excellent control from now on would be a good thing.

It sounds like you have what they call Background Diabetic Retinopathy (BDR) and, yes, it can be cleared up by improved control. In my case, there has been some BDR for a while now. Good control hasn't made it go away, but there has been no progression. The microaneurisms you find in BDR look like red dots. If you have white dots, maybe they are so called Hard Exudates. Thanks everyone, especially for the link that explains about Hard Exudates. From that I did more searches and found reference to Maculopathy and M 1, so I probably got the term wrong and it probably should have been Maculopathy 1. The link I found seems to relate to the screening I had. >>

I think I've been everything but R2 and OL/UG at some point. I think I'm now classified as M0 P. I've floated between M0 and M1 over the last 8 months.
