:) So its been about 6 months since my Dx, i just met with my Endo to go over my new labs.

Here's where I'm at...

Original A1C was 12.5
New A1C 5.7

he did say my triglycerides were a bit high and my good Cholestrol was a bit low...probably becasue i havent been exercising really.

I focused on my diet first...only whole grains, no sugar at all and plenty of fiber. no i need to add in the exercise and i should be in a good place.

well done on the super A1C!!!

i think you will find that your cholesterol and triglycerides will improve if you reduce your carb intake and increase your fat and protein intake.

that has worked for me!

Wow! That's quite the improvement. Good for you. I have the same thing with low cholesterol and high triglygerides. I have been told it is from eating too much meat, but being very careful with the rest of my diet.

Great job on the HbA1c. My belief that to lower triglycerides, you should eat low carb. To raise you HDL, eat lots of good fats (no trans fats), exercise and drink two glasses of red wine every evening (this last part is my favorite).

Regarding tryglycerides I think you have been misinformed:

High triglycerides come from excess carbohydrate and alcohol intake. You can see this in all head to head low vs. high carbohydrate diet studies. In addition, consider DR. Bernstein, he gets most of his calories from meat and has very low triglycerides. Also notice the trend on the many posts on this site where a newby may come to the site with triglycerides of more than 200 (eating the usual Carboholic type-2 diet up to diagnosis) and after a few months on the Low-carb (high meat) routine shows us triglycerides of less than 100. If your triglycerides are over 100 you should take a hard look at you carb & alcohol intake. In the business of diabetes, triglycerides are not your friend.

I wanted to ditto PERKDOUG as well as others.

High tryglycerides are from high carbohydrate intake. If you cut back or cut out your carbs - the number will improve.

My doctor isn't a low carb advocate but, has told me my high triglyceride levels are from too may carbs. :D

Personally, I would cut back or remove the carbs and increase my fat intake excluding trans-fats.

Dankap, you should be so proud of yourself!
What an accomplishment. I am just starting on my adventure with diabetes and dream of the day when my numbers look as good as yours.
Keep up the good work!
