Last night, an hour after dinner, I had a horrible hypo experience (and I blame you, John, for that hypo poll...:D ) I drank 12 oz of real coke and it held my bs steady with no rise for over an hour. I was dropping so amazingly fast....I felt like I could have just slipped out of consciousness so easily...I have no clue why it happened, either...ate something we eat regularly, I know I bolused right...But after a few hours things settled down to normal.
So, I wake up this morning and I am AMAZINGLY high...again, no clue...but my heads a little stuffy, so I'm wondering if this is all just a cold coming on.
But then, I just realized that I took my lantus TWICE this morning...I think I'm losing it...I've never done this before. Thank God I split the dose so I don't take huge amounts at once, but still. So now I'm sort of watching to see how the day plays out with all of this lantus in my system...
Should I still take my pm lantus, or skip it for today? I normally take 10 units in the morning and 8 at night, but now I've had 20 units in the morning....I'm thinking I should just skip it tonight and start over tomorrow.
So weird.

I wont' advise on the Lantus situation... leavin' that for those who have more experience on that than I do, but hope you get sorted soon :) Instead a comment about how apologetic and puzzled folks seem to get when they behave "strangely" when sugars are too high or too low... I've noticed this is a few threads... PLEASE don't beat yourself up... how can we possibly be expected to act completely rationally when our body chemistry is out of whack ;)

Yea, it's all part of the battleground. Don't know why you dropped, but that was obviously a rebound.

Can't help you too much with the Lantus. The problem with skipping is you'll be running high later. I'd want to take it and eat extra for the doubled dose. Set alarms in the night to test maybe. It's a tough call to make.

My own preference if I were in a situation of splitting Lantus and I doubled up on a morning dose is that I would skip the PM dose. The next day go back to the regular amount of the split dose in the morning and plan on adding in some extra rapid during the day to bridge the gap in coverage to the PM dose. I wouldn't want to sleep overnight with extra Lantus in my system -- for me my basal needs are lowest at night and I think it'd be risking too much a nasty hypo.

I would also skip the nighttime Lantus dose. You may very well wake up high the next morning but it's better than a bad low while you're asleep.

My overnight history with lantus is bad...period. That's why I split it. I jacked up my carb ratio when I had lunch and did fine, got through the morning, which is when it likes to drop after a lantus shot, and I'm definately not taking my pm dose...I'll check before bed and take some humalog if I need it...I know I can trust that.
What fun!

The problem with that theory, (for me, at least) is that I'd have to eat 5 hours after I took the lantus because the 6th hour after the injection is when I drop. I normally take the pm dose at 7pm, which means I'd have to eat around midnight...don't see it. I'll be sleeping! :T

I'd skip the second dose as you really have already taken it. I'd adjust the "transition" time with food and/or Humalog.

Hope things get better...wonder what brought that on?
