Is it odd for a non diabetic teen to have an A1C of 6.0?

Over the last 2 years, I have had my son A1C checked and it is up to 6.0 now. It goes up each time I get it checked.

He was tested about 2 years ago and they said no he is not diabetic.

I wonder if I am just catching it early because I am so anal about this.

Could be something caught early. But could also just be the teen hormones playing up and causing the high A1c. Have you tested his blood sugar too?

Might be hormones but does sound to be on the high-side to me (but I am NOT a Doctor) consider getting a Fasting BS and an OGTT to complete the picture :)

I have not taken his bs lately. My wife gets on me when I chase the kids around with my meter in hand lol. When the Dr. did an A1C his fasting was 122. That was at 1pm, he got up at noon that day. So we will be seeing an endo in august. I went through this a couple years ago with him, I can't remember what his a1c was then. But he still has most of the signs, drinks like a fish and pees all the time.

So we will see in mid august.

You shold tell your wife it's needed to hunt this kid with your monitor at least :D If it shows high he needs to see a doctor now, and not in mid august :s:
