Hello everybody.
I'm new here and am after some advice, please.
Throughout both my pregnancies I had raised glucose levels in my urine. When I was about to give birth to my second daughter the midwives were horrified that I had four plusses of glucose (apparently this is really high).
I was advised to go for a diabetes test when not pregnant.
I am about to book this test but I'm really worried I might have diabetes.
I was wondering if there are any symptoms I might be experiencing to give me a better idea of whether I might have it.
Also, I have always consumed a LOT of sugar. My mother always bought me two bars of chocolate per day and I would be given packs of biscuits and cakes for "supper" of which I would eat loads. This gave me a life-long craving for sugar and I have consumed quite a lot daily for years. I am now 32.
I am 5ft 2ins and weight 12st 3lb at present. I am attempting to get down to about 10st ideally. I was 13st two months ago. I put on a lot of weight in my pregnancy.
Anyway, sorry to waffle on, and any / all advice really appreciated.
Many thanks.

Welcome.
Read some of the 'low carb' and 'HFCS' threads. Try searching them.

I was diagnoised about 1 year ago with T2. I never experienced extreme thirst. I did experience an increases need to go pee. I was getting up 2 or 3 times during the night. I experience an extreme hunger. Sometime I would be hungry 30 minutes after eating. I also had a couple of kidney infections and a yeast infection. My 1st and only yeast infection in the months b/4 my diagnoises. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find out. Don't worry. If you do have diabetes, you will adjust to the lifestyle changes you will need to make. Good Luck.

And this is probably going to be a really really stupid question, but does diabetes shorten your life expectancy?

Hello Sugarplumfairy!
Welcome to the only club you never wanted to join.
Are you a diabetic? It is hard to tell based on the information you have provided. That being said, it seems like you may well be on the path. Is that a horrible thing? No, it just requires you to change the way you live your life.
Weight loss, through changing the way you eat and, most importantly, exercise is critical for everyone but moreso for a person on the path towards diabetes.
Can diabetes shorten your life expectancy? Yes. If allowed to progress without action being taken to get your blood glucose down to acceptable levels can, and often does, lead to a host of nasty outcomes.
Those of us who have the diagnosis of Pre-Diabetic have been given a warning that we need to change our ways with the hope of delaying or bypassing the onset of full-blown diabetes.
Please share more information about yourself and the testing that has been done as numbers are the way we communicate and understand where we are in controlling our blood glucose levels. Also, take a few minutes to populate your public profile as that also helps us know who you are.
Oh yes, how many pounds in a stone?

Hi SugarPlumFairy,
That is my pet name for my kids ...lol. When you are pregnant there is a lowered renal thresh hold so it is possible to have your urine tested and there be alot of glucose ..but 4 +'s is quite alot. How much did your baby weigh? If it was over 9lbs then that could be an indication of diabetes.
I would go and have GTT, but also try and modify your diet and get plenty of excercise
It is important that you do something about it, as if you were to try and get pregnant again, amongst other things, undiagnosed diabetes could cause problems.
