Every day I wake up with crust on my eyelashes and around my eyes. Sometimes it is so bad, my eyes are stuck shut until I peel the crust off. It's just disgusting and gets in the way a lot. A few hours after I wake up, gunk starts to build up on my eyes and that causes itchiness and its really hard to get out. Then, before I go to bed my eyes are always itchy and if I rub then, then I can't stop and it is just terrible. I told this to my eye doctor a month ago, he said to use "Zaditor" eye drops. This temporarily works for like 10 minutes when my eyes are itchy but it doesn't work. Oh, and it is only during spring to fall so definitely allergies. Does anybody know what would be able to correct this. It has nothing to do with diabetes because I had it for a couple years before DX.

Jamison, I do transcription at a dermatologist's office, and she's seen several patients with those type symptoms. There is a chronic condition called "eyelid dermatitis" and she suggest that patient's do eyelid scrubs at bedtime and in the mornings with no-tear baby shampoo, as it doesn't irritate the eyes, as this will remove debris and bacteria that might cause problems if not cleaned out.

If you develop blistery lesions there, you will want to see your doctor, as sometimes people will get staph infections on the eyelids requiring antibiotics.

I get matting sometimes in the summer when pollen counts are high myself, and use the baby shampoo scrubs.

Yeph, allergies are the eye crud! I use vizine allery several times a day. Be sure to change the filters in your air conditioner regulary, Wash your pillow case frequently but do not use fabric softner try to use a fragrance free detergent if you can find one. Also do all you can to keep from rubbing your eyes that just makes it worse. Docs uses to prescribe a boric acid solution to use as eyewash. Use it in an eye cup in the mornings to get tue gook out of the lashes and it seems to help during the day as well. Good luck!

I have bad allergies too. My eye symptoms were so bad I felt like CLAWING my eyes out!!! My eye doc wrote a prescription for drops called "Patonol". I use them just once a day and they work great. I have very few eye symptoms anymore. Now if only my nose won't itch so bad.;)

The baby shampoo cut with water is a great tool. You can also use OcuSoft Foam, morning and night and it will decrease the crustiness that you have been having. Many of my patients tell me this does not dry the eyelid skin as badly.
