Last one I know is 4.7. I've had another one taken but haven't gotten the results back yet (probably about 2,000,000).

From the chart I have, yours would be rated excellent, I thiought.

7.9 Last Time I checked, working on getting below 7, then I'll shoot for under 6, 4.7 is crazy low, how is that possible, are you diabetic...lol 6.3 is great though, I'd be ecstatic.

My last one was 6.2, just had one done on Thursday so I should get the results on Monday or Tuesday but if my PDA software is accurate (and it was last time) it will be 5.8 or 5.9.

That is great LGVincent..are you having many lows to achieve it....if so, how do you manage it...low carbing..?? Most T1's would struggle to be under 6.0%(that is a daily average of 120/6.5)..!!

my last one was 5.3 which my endo said was too low,i'd rather it be too low than high.

skilz123
10-02-2004, 11:15 AM
Well for a diabetic 5.3 would usually indicate that you are having a mix of highs and lows rather then a smooth average. For you to be a diabetic and have an average around 100 would be near impossible without having lows.

Dewey
10-02-2004, 11:45 AM
Last one was 5.6 (just had it done the other day), and the endo also said it was too low. However, my sugars on an average (141 over one week, 125 over two weeks, 119 over four weeks) were looking pretty decent, with minimal lows at best. Being Diabetic and never having a few lows (or highs) is near to impossible...lol :)

6.7 here, but that goes along with a little bit of a rollercoaster for a sugar level. I've had everything from 30 to 300. Overy 60% of my sugars have been within a range of 70-180, and I am continuely narrowing my target range. One day I hope to have more normal sugars, and hopefully not have any complications due to all of this..

My last 2, from May and August, were 6.5 and 6.4. Judging by my recent meter averages, I might get down another couple of tenths by next month, provided I stay well-behaved! My lowest in the past 4 years was 6.2, highest was 7.4--only one of 2 readings in 5 years over 7. I feel pretty good with this level of control.

Just got the result for the last test. Now at 6.2, down from 8.3 a year ago. My goal is 5.8. The last time I got it that low, it was at the expense of a lot of hypos. I am hoping that a lower carb diet will reduce the variability and make 5.8 a sustainable level.

Cheers,

Liz, may I talk to you about the nerve damage to the stomach? I probably have the same thing. I can't eat very fast or I will get intense pressure in the stomach and it feels like I'm going to explode. I can't swallow when it happens. It would help if I could burp but I rarely do that.

I just recently got my latest A1c result, and I'm really happy about it b/c it was 5.2 again, so I feel like my last one was not a fluke (5.7 to 5.2 to this time). Anyway, I think the pump and daily exercise has really made this disease easier to handle.

You bet, David! I like many of them but Phantom is my favorite. I sort of feel he and I have something in common, although he can sing better than I and he's better looking. Did you see it when it was last in San Francisco? I love the sets, the costumes, the story, and of course, the music.

Yes, I got to see Zeppelin back in May of 1978. I never thought they would come to Birmingham but they did. It was a general admission concert so I got up close to the stage. I bought one of just about every tee-shirt they had on sale at the concession stand. It was a fun show.

From the looks of it, everyone seems to have decent A1C's. If you're not quite where you want to be, just keep working at it. It may sometimes be hard to reach and maintain a good goal like this, but all I can say is to be persistent, and if you don't reach it right away, just continue to try your best. :)

Wow, Lowell, that's fantastic! How do you do it?

lgvincent
10-16-2004, 10:41 AM
I have too many insulin reactions for my HbA1c to be considered good. I have problems in that if my blood sugar is running low and I drop my dose by a unit, it will often run over 200 and if it runs high and I increase it by a unit it will run low. Two weeks ago, my blood sugar was 35 Saturday afternoon and 25 Sunday afternoon. I dropped my insulin by 1 unit and my blood sugar was 241 the next afternoon. I just can't get it adjusted properly.

I always knew you were 'inbetween' Ig but you are a good friend
to know anyhow.

A pump might be able to fine tune it right but then there is a cost
factor to consider.

At least your body has adjusted to being conscious at those lower levels so you are managing. Many are far from where
you are Ig so count your blessings.

I have a friend who's IM name is 'Tizwit' and I can't seem to place if that is above or below a 'Halfwit'!! Any ideas on this Ig??

David76
10-17-2004, 01:58 AM
lg, sorry to hear the lows are such a challenge. If you do MDI, I think there are shots that have 1/2 unit increments rather than 1 unit increments. Anyway, you probably already know about that stuff, so I just wish you the best with finding a successful way to handle it. Sounds like the 5.0 is moving in the right direction from the 4.7 previously.
Cheers,
David

Sunni, I'm afraid you've got me stumped with tizwit. I'm afraid I have no idea what it means. I'll think on it while using the medical cannabis and see what I can come up with. I can see it now, I'll look like one of the navigators from the Spacing Guild. Always wanted to fold space!

Cin, hopefully I'll be around a little longer. I've always wanted to be one of the undead. Looks like vampires have a pretty good time. I just worry that if that should happen, humans might eventually become some for of "energy" field like I think I saw on Star Trek once (each person's life form was in some sort of little box). Should that happen and I am a vampire, I fear I'll end up line Renfield and have to eat bugs, probably roaches since they seem to be able to survive anything. Not really looking forward to that.

Dewey, wish I could afford a pump but it doesn't look like it's in the cards for me. Oh, well.

David, I've looked for syringes with half unit increments from time to time but have never been able to find any. I'm sure it would help a lot. I've tried guessing but so far my guessing hasn't been good enough.

That's awesome Robin! It sounds like you and Eri are doing a good job of getting the levels down.

jazzy, I think you'll find that the pump will indeed help you reduce your A1C's some more. Hopefully, your trend will continue! :)

Good job, both Koblenz and Kim

Have your blood sugars been pretty consistent, Kim? If they tend to lean toward the lower end of normal, it could cause a lowered A1C like that. Congrats on the cholesterol level

soremom
10-26-2004, 08:12 PM
Dewey, I do try and keep them pretty consistant. I have a tendency to freak if they get close to 120. I prefer in the 90's, no higher than 105. Now with the pump I can keep them there and not have the dangerous lows that I was having. I actually feel "normal", if that is possible for me, again. Nice feeling. Not afraid to be home alone with the boys at night or to drive.

David, cholesterol I have no idea. My dad's is horrible so I really have to watch, though I believe my mom's is good.

A1c, I am constantly testing and seeing where I am at. One day it maybe 1 hour after I eat, somedays two. I always test first thing in the morning and before bed. I am probably complusive about it, but it definitely helps. I wish I knew what exactly what I am doing to keep it down, but I don't. I just watch everything and try to keep on top of it. My two boys also help, want to be around to see my great, great grandchildred. lol

From blood taken a week ago last Wednesday 6.2H% ref range 4.5 to 5.7. The rest of it is now done in the office's lab and not sent out so the ref ranges have changed some, but it looks like tri's went down, total c's went up along with ldl, and HDL went up but still 2 points low. So the doc has doubled my lipitor dosage and have to back in in a month to get checked again.

For those that download their meter readings my meters average of 115 compare to a A1c average of 6.0 according to this chart (http://www.embeediagnostics.com/features/hba1c.htm) . Not to shabby for a meter a year and a half old. Maybe I should replace the batteries.

A link on the page Harold referenced shows another link to an A1C testing unit. I think that is the one (or similar) to the one my doctors office has. On my last visit, they took a small blood sample in this little tube and like 10 minutes later, poof, they had a reading. Previous to that, I had to go to the lab a few days before my appointment and get blood drawn for my A1C. It is called the "Micromat II".

So that is how they did that!

Hello,
I'm new to the board.... diagnosed with Type I over five years ago at the age of 22 - went to the ER with a blood sugar of 755. The first three HbA1C's I had done came back at 5.7, 4.9, 4.3... I was going low way too often though. Ever since then I have ranged from 4.7-5.2 with infrequent lows and highs. A couple of years ago, I wore a continuous glucose monitor for 72 hours and it (thankfully) looked pretty flat with an average of about 90! I have been on lantus and the humulog pen for the past three years or so and have found that this combination really stabilizes my blood sugar quite well. (along with a lot of walking and running!)
Hope this helps somebody out there!

Wow, bac4uw, when I was admitted I was told that my sugars were in the high 700's--The medics at Dewitt Army Hospital on Fort Belvoir VA told me that was a record there, and that many people in the 500's are admitted comatose.

I just did a home A1c test, and I was a bit disappointed: 7.7. The last three months of my life were stressful, but that's no excuse and I thought I would be in better shape. Oh well, we press on, right?

I remember going for a run the morning that I was admitted to the hospital. I think I made it about a mile before I thought, "I don't feel so hot... I'm going home". I was a cross country runner in college at the time and had lost about 20 pounds in a period of about two weeks. I decided the best way to combat the weight loss was to eat more food and drink lots of gatorade. (bad idea!) Fortunately, someone close told me that I had symptoms of diabetes (I had no idea) - I recall only having the symptoms for about two weeks. I imagine that I too would have been admitted comatose if I had gone much longer!
