Ok ....this morning when I looked at my site it looked like it had the beginning of mold! I thought OMG water must have gotten between the tape.....well gross so I got all my stuff out to change the site, began pulling the tape and the mold grew......it wasn't mold but BLOOD!!!! (I think I lost a quart).
Has anyone ever had this happen before from a pump site? I have before but never never this much blood...It took me about 30 mins to get it to stop (contiplating the ER after about 20 mins). I finally got it stopped and applied neosporin and a bandaid....afraid to remove bandage to see puncture wound... maybe that is why my bs were all over the place Friday.

Wow! Belinda, I'm sorry to hear of your gusher! I've never had that, but it sounds pretty scary. I'm glad you're okay.
Take care,
David

I have had this happen a few times
If pressure does not stop it try an ice cube. It is a little messy for a minute but it will stop pretty fast.
Hope this helps if it happens again

Sorry Belinda....dreaded "gushers" are never fun, and even if you're a tough cookie, they can make ya weak in the knees. I've had a few, and all I can say is Ick!
<Usually, I just yell at hubby to grab the nearest napkin, towel (or something) and put pressure on it till it stops. If need be, I also put a band-aid on it.> Yours sounded pretty intense! Hope you're doing better, and hang in there...Maybe you should tattoo that region so you don't hit it again...lol j/k :)

Yikes Bell!! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt (which said :stupid: ).
Never had the mold problem though LOL ;) I also had the gusher one time back when I was on MDI's; injected into my arm and as soon as I pulled the needle out, that bad boy was shooting across the room!
Most likely when you injected your set you hit a venule (small veins that run below the subcutaneous layer of the skin), causing blood to pool. And boy when that happens they're hard to stop! Would explain your BG's too, as the insulin would pool and become diluted as a result.
Glad to hear you got a handle on it and noticed it soon!

I've had this happen earlier this year, with no symptoms or warnings--I was changing sites, and typically I leave my "old" set in for a day just in case the new site has issues...Well, I decided to pull the old site, and like Old Faithful it squirts. I freak, and of course I am not prepared for this. I was putting my new site in my leg, so my pants are around my ankles, and now here I am trying to keep this gusher from getting on my pants, getting on my carpet, as I hobble to the bathroom for tissue...
By the time it was all said and done, I had a ruined set of pants, blood drops on my carpet and even a few on my desk in my home office--It looked kinda like a crime scene! :D
So, yeah, it happens.
