If a person doesn't have certain body organs, will the results of the overall diabetic health, eating, testing, etc. be effected?
Like if you don't have a gall bladder, will that have any effect on what you do or don't do regarding self care?

That's a good question for your Doctors! lol, I know that many people are diagnosed with diabetes after having their Gall-bladder removed, but don't know that answer to your question.

That is a good question. Since the gallbladder helps to breakdown fat for digestion you would think it may have some kind of effect on the bg. I would be interested to know the answer to that question if you find out.

Diabetic or not, most people who have had their gallbladder removed notice no appreciable difference to their overall health....apart from missing the dreadful pain of a g/b attack. If certain foods were upsetting them before the op (for example pork upsets many) they may find that this still occurs. A friend of mine however, (I still have my g/b), found that grapefruit was the only food she couldn't eat afterwards.

The gallbladder is a reservoir for bile which is produced by the liver. When food passes from the stomach bile and whatever enzymes produced by the pancrease dumps into the intestine with it to aid in digestion. Without a gallbladder the liver has to produce all of the required bile on demand. So if you eat too much food, especially if your having alcholic beverages at the same time, the liver may not be able to keep up. Which will most likely lead to intestinal distress.

I've heard of people having problems with grapefruit, nuts, and high fat food. Found out I can eat most anything I want, but too much food or too much fat at one time will cause lower intestinal cramps like I use to get before my gallbladder was removed.

I had my gallbladder removed several months ago (and I'm only 20 years old). At first my blood sugars seemed more normal and in range but later, they went back to before the surgery....My average is about 160

I wonder UCOChick if you started eating a broader range of food.....I didn't think the gallbladder had much to do with the regulation of bGs.
Perhaps the lack of bile does slow digestion....anyone else see a connection with raised bGs after the op....
