Good news!!!

We Canadians with the Paradigm pumps are finally going to get our BD Link meters!! I got a call from Medtronics of Canada Wed. night, and was told that I should receive my new meter (in purple to match my pump, of course :p ) within about three weeks. :D

More waiting time of course, but at least this is good news and I know for sure that I'll be receiving my meter. (I haven't complained as fervently as I could have - haven't felt it right since I got the 512 including meter for the price of the 511 and the remote free) Might call them up when I have a chance and see if I can't finagle a free copy of the Solutions Software (need the cable lol) and remind them that I was one of the first (if not the very first, according to my rep) Canadian to receive the 512, which logically means I should get the meter first as well.....since I've been waiting the longest...... ;)

Three weeks and counting!!

Congrats, Shy. :) Looks pretty cool from what I read online (Paradigm Link (http://www.minimed.com/patientfam/pf_ipt_paradigm_link.shtml)).

Shy,

That's great!!!!:D I'm sure you will find it very usefull. I love mine.
The only down side was the software for it. Kind of expensive.:(

Oh man, Liz, it's the capability of downloading to the software that I'm really looking forward to!!! I'm a big fan of my Freestyle Flash so I don't know how well I'll like this Link meter, but the software is probably the reason I'll use it :D

Thanks all!! Still counting!!

I got my wonderful new meter by Purolator today!! :D :D :D

I gotta say, this thing is sooooooooo cool! Every time my pump beeped today after receiving the BG, I made a little giddy noise and grabbed the closest person to say "look look!!" It came with 25 test strips and two batteries, and the BIG news is that it came with a mail-in card for a free USB cable and the Solutions software!!! Medtronics of Canada also sent a nice letter thanking me for my patience in waiting for the **** thing :p

I'm so glad I finally got it; now I just have to wait patiently (again) for the Solutions software.

Congrats, Shy! I'm glad to hear ya finally got it! Did you happen to reference it against the Freestyle? I sometimes do that to see if one meter's reading within a close range to another one...

:D Congrats, and enjoy it! :D

Thanks Dew :) I haven't referenced it against any of my other meters - I shy away from doing that :p . I have to go get blood drawn soon, so I'll probably test it against the lab. My numbers have been normal, though, coinciding with how I feel, and I haven't had any unexplainable readings. So I think it's a good deal.

Shy, I have used this meter before, and I hate to be the one to break it to you, but most people I know stopped using it because it starts out accuractely, then it goes down hill. In a little while mine couldn't tell a 20 from a 500. And I tried three different meters the company kept sending me. The results varied so much. I could test back to back and get anywhere from a 20 to over 200. It was rediculous. It also randomly started removing results from the memory.

That's one reason I like to reference for a while with a meter that I trust. Today (for some weird reason), my Cozmonitor read 68 (and I knew I didn't feel that way)... so, I re-tested with both it and another meter I trust, and the actual reading turned out to be 198! The Cozmonitor usually reads well and is in tune with the way I feel, but for some reason (possibly misaligned, strip may not have been seated properly, etc..), it gave a false reading that time. Hence, the referencing...(It may not be cost-efficient, but health is priceless!) ;)

I hope that your new meter works well for ya Shy, and that it doesn't give ya any troubles! Congrats again! :)

Funnygirl,

I'm a little confused here. Which Bd meter did you use. The one for use with the paradigm pump or the logic meter and how long ago did you use this meter?

Because they had to upgrade the meter that works with the pump due to a few problems they had with it not that long ago. I would asume they had to upgrade the logic also.

I have been using the bd meter that works with paradigm and haven't had any problems.

I used the BD logic, not the pump one. I had the original one, then they sent me a new one to upgrade the problems they were having with the first one. The new one was just as bad, if not worse than the first one. Here are the problems I have had:
1. E-3s- this resolved with the new one
2. Accuracy- I could test back to back and get a 20 followed by a 200, this was not resolved in the new version
3. Memory-results got randomly dropped from the memory, and not just because I exceeded the limit. I only had this issue in one of them
4. Control Solution- I tried to do a control test on one, and the meter just died, again, this only happened on one of them.

I would love it if this meter did work, but unfortunately, I have tried 5 different BD Logics, and it is always the same. It starts out fine, then it goes downhill. I now have a new one, and will try that too, if that doesn't work, I will give up.

I'm a little confused here. I read in another post that you started, funnygrl, that you had just received the BD Logic 10/21/04 - your thread here (http://www.diabetesforums.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=33946#post33946) .

As for my meter, it's living up to my fullest expectations  !! No errors, no inaccuracies as far as I can tell (I'll let y'all know how the lab comparison turns out) and it's sooooo convenient!! A bad habit that I've always had is checking my BG and then forgetting what it was 2 mins later and having to check my meter. Now it stores it on my pump - I feel like the Scarecrow with a new brain!! :D

Yeah, you can get a free one. I put in the post I just posted last night that I would give it one more chance, hence the free one I just got. That's the one more chance. I wouldn't recommend the meter, but some people do like it, that is why I posted that. I just thought I would share that deal with everyone else, even though my experience was negative.

Shy, I am glad it is working out for you. Sounds great!
