View Full Version : I got an offer from Glucowatch
Some of my mail still goes to my parents place (from when I lived with them 5 years ago) and I went by this weekend to see them...I saw a letter from Cygnus (makers of Glucowatch) and they are offering me the Glucowatch for $299 (normally $800+) and the sensors for $4 a piece (normally almost $10 a piece). Do you guys think it's worth it? Anyone else get this offer?

I received the offer too. It's a much better price than usual but I still can't afford it. I have to wonder how many sensors can I get before the price goes back up. I'm also concerned about the things I've heard like it's easy to break contact with the sensor, it's somewhat inaccurate, and it irritates the site where it sits on the arm.
I've thought the same, lg. My intention would be to wear it overnight to get some feedback on how my sugars act while I am asleep. I may also use it occasionally during the day to evaluate my basal rates for my pump, but I'd have to be careful not to do anything that would make me sweat... :p
I had talked to my CDE about getting hooked up to the MiniMed CGMS--Since I am not sure insurance will cover it for me, I may have to pay $230 to do it ($200 for the visit/follow-up and $30 for the insertion set). In my mind, I HAVE to do this because I feel it would be very informative. But then I got this offer, and it made me stop and think about it...I guess I'll continue to debate a little while longer.
I have received the same offer too. I don't like how you have to change the sensor every 13 hours. I was thinking of waiting for MiniMed's Guardian.
Not something I would wear all the time. Just when the bg's are not in control. Which happens to be all the time. If you use the watch for that then it may not be a bad idea.

I have heard good and not so good things about the watch, so I would really have to consider the price issue, but I admit it is tempting.
I just finished a session on the MiniMed CGMS, and I am pretty happy with the results it gives overall. I was not too surprised by the results, as I test often, but it confirmed a few assumptions my CDE and I had made about what my body was doing and when.
I posted my results and the graph produced from the CGMS in a thread "ever been on a CGMS" in the monitoring section.
Hope this helps.

Poor attitude here
My feeling is that should be paying us to try their product out for them.

When I was having all my low problems, my Dr thought that this would help, especially at night for me. Couldn't get the insurance to pay for it. Apparently the results with it don't justify the expense. I guess they are having some problems with accuracy. I did get the letter too. I was told that this is not something you can wear 24 hrs a day. For only a certain time period. I honestly can't remember my drs reason one but she did point that out.
Now that I am back on the pump I don't need the watch so I just through my offer out. If it would have come out a year ago, I may have decide to try it.
